Junior School Ethics Olympiad Team
Congratulations to our Junior School Ethics Olympiad team who will compete in this year’s National Ethics Olympiad competition later this term.
The Ethics Olympiad provides schools and universities with a unique opportunity to develop skills in critical thinking, collaboration and communication. Designed to get students thinking, talking and ultimately working together on some of the tough moral issues of our time. The objective is to do more than just help them think through ethical issues; it is to teach students how to think through ethical issues together, as fellow citizens in a complex moral and political community.
Our students will face appropriate and interesting ethical cases and compete against schools from across the country via Zoom in a competition in which we were victorious last year.

Chess Success
Congratulations to Yr 4 student, Peter Phillipou, who competed in the NSW State Championships over the holidays, where he placed 7th in the U12 category.
The competition consisted of ten rounds over three days, most games lasting over an hour each against some very tough opposition. Peter is now training towards the Junior National Championships next January in Adelaide and we are very proud of this achievement.
Jeans for Genes Day – Friday 4 August
Next Friday, sees our whole school community support Jeans for Genes Day again. Students can wear mufti on this day and are encouraged to wear a splash of denim.
We will be hosting a bake sale at recess and students are allowed to bring gold coins to donate and/ or purchase cakes. Donations can also be made via this link or the QR code on the poster.
Murdoch Street Crossing
This week and after persistence from Redlands, Transport for NSW have confirmed that a School Crossing Supervisor has been organised to assist with the Murdoch Street crossing and we hope that they can start very soon after completing their training next week.
As staff are not authorised to carry out these duties, we continue to provide a staff member to monitor the crossing and remind the students of road safety.
Save the Date: Grandparents and Special Friends Day
As communicated in the start of term letter, we are looking forward to welcoming grandparents and special friends to our school next month. Please note the timings below for your early information and we look forward to sending more details closer to the event.
Wayside Chapel Junior Campus Winter Collection

Wayside Chapel is an iconic Sydney Community whose message of love over hate deeply resonates with our Redlands Values. The Junior Campus is partnering with Wayside this winter to provide much needed goods for those experiencing homelessness in Sydney. They urgently need new or old (in good condition) warm clothes, sleeping bags, socks, beanies. For a complete list of donation needs see the attached list. Your gifts immediately improve the lives of those who visit Wayside. Hand in donations to either Prep or Junior Receptions up until 24 August.
