Grandparents & Special Friends Day – Friday 26 August

We are looking forward to the return of our Grandparents & Special Friends Day tomorrow and a please note a few final reminders below:

  • Junior School guests should arrive at 11.15am to Junior School Reception, where they will be guided towards classrooms.
  • It is important that guests do not arrive early as our Preschool and Prep special guests will be here before and parking will be at a premium.
  • For guests who will be here early in the morning for the Preschool or Prep event, a morning tea has been organised to keep up the energy levels needed!
  • We ask that only grandparents or special friends attend as there have been, and will be, opportunities for parents to come in at different times as we return to normal events and occasions. We are also mindful of keeping the numbers on campus and in classrooms as limited as possible.
  • Guests are encouraged to wear a mask.

Book Week 2022

Book Week is in full swing and kicked off with author, Mark Greenwood, capturing the students’ attention with four different and highly engaging talks based on his books and the art and craft of storytelling.

Tomorrow sees an opportunity for students to dress up if they wish to with this year’s theme, “Dreaming with eyes open”, encouraging students to dress up as something or somebody they dream of being.

Yr 6 Parent Information

Yr 7, 2023 Year Advisors

For the information of our Yr 6 families, on behalf of Ms Gemma Van de Peer (Head of Secondary School), I am delighted to share the appointments of Mr Jimmy Tod-Hill and Mrs Jessica Adams as the Yr 7, 2023 Year Advisor and Assistant Year Advisor respectively. I have already had contact with them both and they are really looking forward to connecting with Yr 6 in the remaining part of the year as another important part of our transition process.

Senior Campus Cybersafety Seminar with ySafe

Also connected to the transition of our students from Yr 6 to Yr 7 next year, the Secondary School are pleased to invite current Yr 6 parents and carers the chance to attend a Senior Campus Cybersafety Seminar next week exploring support with the challenges posed by the digital environment.

To know what you can do as parents to support your child’s digital safety and wellbeing, please register and attend our ySafe Parent Seminar (in person or via Zoom) next Wednesday 31 August from 6pm.

We are very pleased to host another ySafe Parent Seminar this term both via Zoom and in-person in the Learning Hub.

For those of you who would like to join us face to face for the session, you will have the opportunity to chat to the ySafe presenters as well as experience the Learning Hub. A link will be sent to those parents watching the ySafe Session via Zoom.

In partnership again with industry leaders, the session will focus on the specific challenges and opportunities Secondary School students may encounter in the digital environment and what parents can do to support their child’s digital safety and wellbeing.

Spring Fair – Musical Item

We are just over a week away from the Redlands Spring Fair and I am grateful to the army of parent and staff organisers and helpers who have tirelessly worked to prepare for this massive community event.

All Junior School students are invited to join a mass Prep and Junior School students singalong at the Spring Fair next Saturday 3 September. The item takes place at 10:15am and is a song that the students are all very familiar with, Sesere Eeye. Students will be reminded next week as well and we look forward to seeing many students singing and dancing together on stage in the Fahl Garden on the Senior Campus.

HICES Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to our Redlands Athletics team who competed with great spirit and energy at yesterday’s HICES Athletics Carnival to finish as runners-up overall in Division 1. There is more detail in the Junior School Sport section and we also acknowledge the 23 students who have now been selected to represent the HICES Athletics team at the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) Carnival later this term.

Important OOSH Messages

Thanks to Miss Ana and her team, OOSH is growing and each afternoon the program is rich with activity and fun. As our numbers have grown, we thought it timely to remind both our students and families about some of our playground and pick up guidelines that we have in place to keep everyone safe. As you know, the Prep playground can become a very busy space in the afternoons with sport, senior students training and general movement. To ensure that our OOSH students are safe, and we are stay within our ACECQA regulations please note the following:

  • Only OOSH students are permitted on any of the play equipment after 3.10pm.

These students will have a coloured wrist band.

  • Prep and Junior School students are separated into different areas when afternoon tea has been served. Please note that siblings may be separated as well if in different sections. An OOSH educator will take the senior students to either the Junior School equipment to play or to the Junior School room allocated to them.
  • Parents are to enter and leave via the Junior School Reception Door only to pick up their child as well as when exiting. Please press the buzzer to enter Reception. The Prep Reception door will be closed and locked from 4pm each afternoon.
  • The rules around devices that apply during the day at school also apply at OOSH. There is a no device rule in place at OOSH. Some senior students have access to the OOSH iPad for homework purposes, but this is only approved when an OOSH educator is sitting with a student and the student has explained their reason why they need to device. The OOSH educators can ring parents if needed at any time.

Thank you for supporting the OOSH team.
