Dance Success

It was with unbridled joy that I had some students visit my office on Monday morning to share the wonderful success of some of our Junior School ballet performers last Sunday at the Sydney Eisteddfod, held in the iconic venue of the Sydney Opera House. In talking also to the Head of our Ballet and Dance Academy, Ms Revie, she was equally proud and shared our visible the group’s enjoyment was too as they danced on the Sydney Opera House stage.

The group of students from Years 5 and 6 were place 1st in a group of 20 primary school students from all over Sydney. Congratulations to these students and we also look forward to acknowledging them in our next Junior School assembly.

Aid for Ukraine

As I shared in Term 1, I have been moved to hear from one Redlands family who have relatives who normally live in Ukraine but are now in various countries across Europe with many who don’t speak English. The family were assisting from Sydney as best possible but in the last holiday break, they travelled to Europe to assist on the front line and during their trip, they were able to deliver 3 ambulances, medical aid, 10 defibrillators, 3 4×4 pickup trucks to get medical aid and doctors into towns where the roads have been destroyed and the ambulances can’t make it, plus two buses to collect and take people without their own means of transport out of Russian occupied areas.

Roman’s video which he sent back to his helps to explain this further and the common message the family received was how amazed and inspired the Ukrainian people were that people from Australia cared enough to have donated funds to help them and that some, like the Spenceley family, were actually in the country to help.
If you would like to consider supporting the Spenceley family’s fundraising efforts, you are able to do so via this GoFundMe link.

Jeans for Genes Day

Tomorrow is a Mufti Day at Redlands as we support Jeans for Genes Day again. Junior School students are asked to bring a gold coin donation and 6Y will also be holding a bake sale at recess if students wanted to bring a little more money. 6Y also created this video for the Junior School which you might enjoy too.

Book Week 2022 (22-26 August)

We are all set for Book Week later this term and have secured acclaimed author, Mark Greenwood, to speak to each year group. Mrs Wiebe will be providing a sheet of Children’s Book Week Council activities that students might also like to take part in.

We will again have a dress up theme on Friday 26 August and this year’s theme is Dreaming with eyes open so students are encouraged to dress up as something or somebody they dream of being.

The students will be introduced to the books on the Children’s Book Council shortlist and explore the Book Week theme in their library lessons with Mrs Wiebe.

CIS Softball Selection

We were thrilled to hear that Lauren Rolfe (Year 6) has been selected to represent the CIS Primary Girls Softball Team that will be competing at the NSWPSSA Girls Softball Championships 21-23 September. Lauren has been selected as a catcher and at short shop, her two favourite positions, and I know that this success has also been on the back of her commitment to training and improvement.

Mosman Youth Awards in Literature 2022

This morning, I was delighted to receive notification that Zara Siva (Year 6) has been shortlisted in the awards presentation at the end of the month. Congratulations to all of our students who entered this writing competition and in particular to Zara.
