Head of Junior School
It has been wonderful to feel the energy of the students’ return to school this week and we look forward to a positive and purposeful term ahead. I hope that families have had some time to read through the extensive ‘Term 2 Welcome letter’ sent on Tuesday which sets the scene for the term ahead.
Yr 6 Camp (2-6 May)
We are looking forward to our Year 6 cohort enjoying their first camp since Year 3 next week in Canberra, which balances some wonderful outdoor educational experiences with civics education aligned with the year group’s current studies on democracy and government.
Yr 6 families should have received a detailed second letter on Wednesday outlining our planning and updated COVID protocols and I look forward to joining the group for two days during their time away.

Weddings
Over the break, we were thrilled for two of our Junior School teachers, Melanie Cleary and Alix Smith, who married their respective fiancés. The students were delighted to also see these photos in our first assembly this week and I know that you will join me in wishing them all the very best in this next chapter in their lives.
Remote Learning Update
With the revised guidelines, students who are household contacts will be permitted to be in school after returning daily negative RATs and should wear a mask.
As has always been the case, if students are unwell and recovering from COVID, they are not expected to be learning and need to focus their energies on getting well.
However, as we have seen, where students are isolating and have been asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms and hence able to learn, class teachers will provide learning tasks for the few days as required and may include learning from specialist or Learning Plus teachers too.

Time: 7.45am-8.45am (but the cart will remain open until 9am’ish)
Other info: Freshly brewed barista coffees will be served from the coffee carts with tea
and hot chocolates for students served from the Junior Canteen
Breakfast cookies will also be available.

Mother’s Day Classic
On Sunday 8 May, Redlands will again be participating at the Mother’s Day Classic to honour and support the 1 in 7 women diagnosed with breast cancer. This year is an extra special year for the Mother’s Day Classic community as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of getting active for breast cancer research.
So tell your friends, recruit your siblings, enlist your family and join us for a special day out and if you are coming along, please do register for Team Redlands here.
Mosman Youth Awards in Literature 2022
Over many years, Redlands students have enjoyed participation and success in the annual Mosman Youth Awards in Literature, a competition in prose and poetry writing. Now in its 30th year, I share this year’s details for parents and students to consider and class teachers will also encouraging student involvement with this literary opportunity ahead of the closing date of 31 May. Please note that entry forms must be signed by a parent or guardian and not a teacher if the entrant is under 18 years of age.
