JUNIOR SCHOOL UPCOMING EVENTS
Booking required: Junior School Parent Cyber Safety Webinar
As mentioned last week, we have been pleased to partner with ySafe, Australia’s leading cyber safety educators and last week Junior School students participated in interactive workshops which highlighted prominent cyber risks and digital platforms they may encounter and explored strategies for how they can protect their personal information, stay safe online, and what to do if they encounter or experience cyber bullying while playing games, engaging in chats or while in Apps.
We are pleased to host next Tuesday’s Junior School Cyber Safety Parent Webinar, tailored to parents of students in Yrs 3-6, which will explore what parents should know about the challenges and opportunities their children may encounter in the digital environment and how to support their digital safety and wellbeing.
The session will be led by Yasmin London from ySafe, a specialist in the field of cyber safety and social media.
Registration closes at 8pm on Monday 17 May and registered attendees will receive the Zoom webinar link and access on Tuesday 18 May.

NAPLAN – Yrs 3 and 5
This week saw students across Australia in Yrs 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy, or NAPLAN, as it is more commonly known. Our students can take great pride in the way in which they approached these formal assessments and our starting point in Yrs 3 and 5 is always to ensure that the students do not feel any undue pressure, that they are appropriately prepared for the format of the tests, and that they were provided the conditions to do their very best, all that we can ever ask of them.
My thanks are extended to Ms Atkins (Junior Campus Dean of Administration) for her considerable work behind the scenes to ensure that everything ran smoothly and to Class and Learning Plus teachers for looking after the academic and pastoral needs of their students, both before and during these tests. We look forward to receiving the results in Term 3, at which point parents will also receive a detailed breakdown of their child’s assessments.
Biggest Morning Tea – Thursday 27 May
We are excited to be part of this year’s Cancer Council event, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
Led by an initiative from Class 4 Red which they presented in assembly, we look forward to hosting this event on campus where students will be able to purchase morning tea baked goods and be able to donate money too.
Parents and community members may also wish to support this student-led fundraiser by making a donation at our online fundraising page here.
Walk to School Day: Friday 14 May
Tomorrow is National Walk Safely to School Day, an annual campaign which promotes road safety and a healthy lifestyle. Walking to school is one way to build exercise into our daily routine and also will help reduce traffic congestion around our Redlands school community.
We have been promoting this with students this week and this short BTN video may be a conversation starter at home too that you can use to discuss with your students prior to Friday morning.
We will have stickers at the gate for students who walk to school and even if parents need to drive, perhaps park a couple of streets away and walk the last part tomorrow.
Belinda Oxley Scholarship – Arts Cards
We are delighted to announce that the Arts cards can be pre-purchased here and will be distributed after Wednesday 26 May.
The online auction is also now open with wonderful prizes such as holiday accommodation, children activities and camps and incredible artwork. This auction will close at 2.30pm on Wednesday 26 May.
Proceeds made from these initiatives will be dedicated towards the Belinda Oxley Scholarship, a means-tested scholarship which is to be awarded to an exceptionally talented Yr 7 2023 student for their entire Secondary schooling.
House Cross Country Carnival
Congratulations to all of our students who took part in today’s annual House Cross Country Carnival. In beautiful weather, it was inspiring to see students challenge themselves and earn House points in their races and there were some wonderful personal bests for many students but of equal note, I was delighted to see the students having fun and showing great sportsmanship.
My thanks are extended to our Sports Department and our team of teachers and coaches who helped to ensure that the day was a success.
