Heritage Week

This week the School proudly celebrates 134 years of excellence in education at Redlands. With cake in abundance and plenty of balloons, the week began with a Prep Assembly where Deputy Principal, Ms McGarry, talked to the students about the School’s birthday. As a special presentation, the Junior Jazz Band, led by Mr Ben Castelli, played for the Prep students and staff. Thank you to Remie Gibbs, Jasper Houchell, Sophia Natilli, Conor Petersen, Hannah Scott, Scarlett Thorp, Jessica van Extel and Harrison Winder, who demonstrated excellence in performance and highlighted the wonderful opportunities available to the Prep students when they reach Junior School. The week will culminate with a Foundation Day Service on Friday 8 June. For some new families beginning at Redlands, you may not have been aware that our school has its origins in the “College for Girls” in 1884 and as such this year we particularly celebrate 40 years of coeducation. Of interest is the History page on our website where the School’s archivist has gathered some wonderful pictures and information of the School’s history.

Spring Fair – Jam Making

Last Sunday, I joined a group of very enthusiastic staff, students, parents, and grandparents who met at The Barn in Mosman to try their hand at jam making. A delicious marmalade jam and lemon preserve were prepared and we look forward to selling and purchasing these handmade products at the Spring Fair. Thanks must go to Jean Martin and Trudy Waterhouse for organising this event and I would encourage those who missed out on this opportunity to attend the next jam making session on Monday 25 June. Please see the Spring Fair section of Redlands Pulse for further details.

Indigenous Literacy Fund

As mentioned in previous Note Day additions, our Term 2 charity focus is used to support Indigenous Literacy.  We are excited to share that although we are only half way through the term, we have already managed to raise an impressive $245. Thank you for your generosity.

You Can Sit With Me

It was wonderful to see the Junior Campus join together with their buddies at lunch time last Friday to observe You Can Sit With Me day. Wearing a touch of yellow, students and staff enjoyed eating lunch together and being reminded of the special and unique gifts each student brings to the School.

Piano Competition

I had the pleasure of attending the Junior School’s Piano Competition in the newly built Music Centre on the Senior Campus. This beautiful space added to the afternoon’s special ambiance where Junior students shared their piano expertise. It was wonderful to see students who had begun their piano tuition in Prep School continue on with their lessons in Junior School and be given this opportunity to perform in front of an audience. The adjudicator for the competition, Ms Tonya Lemoh, spoke very highly of both the performance standard and determination of each competitor.

Remembering Murray

Tuesday saw the poignant two year anniversary of the passing of much-loved Redlands Kindy student, Murray Cunningham. The date will always bring an important time of contemplation for many of us in the Redlands community and serve as an opportunity for us to remember and celebrate his life.

The beautiful elephant sculpture in the Prep playground that was dedicated to Murray, a strong supporter for the protection of elephants, and the plaque in Murray’s name in our Memorial Garden, hold strong and dear connections in remembering his legacy here at Redlands. For those who know them, I know that you will join me in keeping the Cunningham family in your thoughts this week, in particular.

Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend

Redlands will be closed on Monday 11 June to observe the Queen’s birthday long weekend. A reminder, if you are taking students out on a school day, it is the School’s policy to request permission by emailing the Head of Early Childhood prior to your leave dates. If you are planning a trip over this long weekend, we wish you safe travels and look forward to hearing about the adventures experienced.

Term 3/Term 4 Notice of Departure

As we are approaching the mid-point of the year, this is a reminder that those families who are planning on leaving the School during or at the end of Term 3 or Term 4 are required to give notice to the Principal via an email to registrar@redlands.nsw.edu.au by the following dates:

  • Term 3 Departures: Friday 22 June
  • Term 4 Departures: Friday 27 July

As per our Conditions of Enrolment emailed to all families in December last year with the 2018 Schedule of Fees, there will be fees in lieu payable for any notices of departure received after the relevant date.
