Head of Early Childhood
Sydney Swans AFL
Yrs 1 and 2 had a wonderful time last Friday when representatives from the Sydney Swans came to Redlands to take students through some AFL drills. All students enjoyed their session and we look forward to welcoming them back next year for some more fun.

Yr 1 Camp Out
One of my favourite events on the Prep School calendar is the Yr 1 Camp Out. This is not because I am an avid camper or enjoy sleeping at school, it is because of the joy that comes from watching the interactions between the children and their parent, grandparent or other family member. The weather was glorious and all campers enthusiastically participated in a series of activities that were designed to improve wellbeing, resilience and strengthen family bonds. These included music and games, story and memory sharing, acknowledging children for their strengths and qualities, and sharing meals. Thanks must go to Ms Finlayson, the Yr 1 team, Prep Administration, Facilities team, Junior Canteen and Prep staff for their wonderful organisation and assistance to make this event possible. To the parents and carers who attended the event, thank you for your support and for giving your children memories that will last forever.
“On Friday, we had Camp Out. I came with my dad. I played with Enrico, Charlotte and Sash, then Charlotte and I went to our tent. We were so surprised when we saw it and went inside and it felt like we were inside a gigantic castle. Then Zara, Charlotte and I ate a whole packet of chocolate fingers, they were so delicious. After that we made a circle outside and played some games. We played birdie in the nest, it was so much fun. Later we went and made a card for our grown up and they made one for us. I really liked what my dad said about me. We then went to Dunnet Hall and played tunnel ball. I have never played it before. This was the best Camp Out ever, it was so much fun”. Yr 2 Curriculum Strings
Monday afternoon provided a wonderful performance opportunity for the Yr 2 cohort as they all performed at Strings in the Piazza. It was a joyous affair enjoyed immensely by all performers and audience members alike. We would like to thank the students for putting in so much hard work, specialist Music tutors, class teachers and the parents for their support. A special mention must go out to the Advanced String Ensemble who led the finale, Oh When the Saints, supported by a rousing Parent Chorus. The Music Department extends particular thanks to MIC of Strings; Mr Michael Warby, for his management and overseeing of this extension instrumental program.

School Musical – Return to the Forbidden Planet
Last Thursday, I attended opening night of the School’s performance of Return to The Forbidden Planet. Secondary students acted, danced and sang their way through a musical that has been compared to William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, with characters, plot and certain analogues found in the play. With memorable music favourites including Great Balls of Fire, Good Vibrations and Teenager in Love, the more mature audience members were tapping their feet and singing along! Congratulations to the Drama, Music and Dance Departments for giving the community another remarkable example of the talent of both staff and students at Redlands.
International Day
Thank you to all those who participated in International Day. The colourful array of costumes from all around the world was just beautiful and showed the diversity of culture we are so fortunate to have at Redlands. The Prep students enjoyed the performance of Indigenous Storyteller Matthew Doyle.

Happy Holidays
It has been an industrious and happy first term for the students of Prep. What a delight it has been to watch the deep learning and growth in abilities of the students in only 11 weeks of school. I have valued all your feedback and ongoing support, and further encourage you to continue the open communication between staff and school, as we work in partnership for the positive outcomes of the students. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a lovely break, take time for yourselves, rest and re-energise for another dynamic term. For those travelling abroad, take care and stay safe and I look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday 1 May for Term 2.
