Marvellous Mixtures
Last week, the Yr 2 cohort participated in an engaging and hands-on incursion lead by Fizzics Education. The Marvellous Mixtures session provided a wonderful launchpad for the Science-based Inquiry unit this term. Through the different investigations, students were able to combine and separate materials, whilst making predictions and observations along the way. The students demonstrated exceptional scientific thinking and they were able to make connections with past learning experiences.
Yr 2 Parent Information Session
This week, Head of Junior School, Mr Ari Guha, sent Yr 2 parents an email outlining the Junior School Information Session which will be held in Week 4, in the Junior School Arnold Library between 5.30 – 7.00pm on Thursday 8 November. As well as hearing an overview about the Junior School, families will also receive information from other leaders in the Junior School as well as representatives from Sport and Performing Arts on what will be similar and what might be different from the Preparatory School. The care and support for the smooth transition of each student will also be outlined by Yr 2 Coordinator, Mrs. Sharp. Following this session, on Friday 9 November all of our Yr 2 students, as well as new students joining the Year Group in 2019, will spend time in our Yr 3 classrooms, rotating through each of the four classes doing a different, fun activity with our current Yr 3 teaching team. This will be another important step in this transition between Prep and Junior sections of our School.
Remembrance
Last Monday saw a multitude of Redlands Board members, families and staff celebrate the life of teacher, friend and colleague, Belinda Oxley. Through tears and laughter, guests heard Ms Vanessa Finlayson eloquently share beautiful moments of Belinda’s professional and personal life, with particular reference to her dedication, selflessness and strength. A memorable moment was when an ex-student poignantly remembered Miss Oxley, his favourite teacher in Yr 2, mentioning that it was she alone who inspired and led him into a career in Art. Thank you to Fiona McKenzie, Shelly Acland, Sam Kourakis and Deputy Principal, Sarah McGarry, for their unwavering support of the Early Childhood staff at this very difficult time.
