Canteen Online Ordering
A letter was emailed earlier in the week to all Early Childhood families informing them of the exciting new online ordering system, Flexischools, beginning on Monday 6 August. Flexischools is a well-established organisation allowing you to easily place all your Canteen orders online. We hope this step forward will support families with a more convenient and efficient process of ordering from the Canteen. In the early stages of this transition towards an increasingly cashless Canteen, an iPad will be situated at the Canteen for families who haven’t been able to pre-order food online before the 9.00am daily cut-off. If you have any questions, please contact the Flexischools Customer Service Team on 1300 361 769, or you can contact them via their website; www.flexischools.com.au.
Jeans for Genes Day
As a reminder, tomorrow, Friday 3 August, Redlands (P-12) will be supporting Jeans for Genes Day. It was established in 1994 by the Children’s Medical Research Institute to fund revolutionary research that helps diagnose, understand, and find cures or treatments for conditions affecting children, including genetic diseases, cancer, and epilepsy. The goal in their 25th year is $25 million, enough to create a new centre of collaboration, bringing world-leading scientists and doctors together to help Australian children with genetic disease. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation to wear jeans and mufti on this day. A reminder that sneakers are to be worn.
Spring Fair Planting
Michael Kniha, our School’s Horticulturist visited Transition Gold last week to help students with the planting of seeds to sell flowers and vegetables for the Spring Fair. He taught the students about seeds and what they need to do to look after them. Transition Gold had many questions for Mr Kniha which has sparked a class project. Gabby asked, “How do seeds know what to grow”?
The Spring Fair Committee have been busy preparing and organising for the Spring Fair on 15 September. The Coordination teams are working hard to ensure the day is great fun for everyone, most importantly the children. They are seeking donations of chocolate (big and small), lollies and lucky dip prizes for our Early Childhood stalls – Old Fashioned Lollies, Lucky Dip and Lob-a-Choc. Please pass donations directly to Prep or Redlands House Reception.
In addition, please see dates and times below, for jam and baking sessions at The Barn in Mosman.

Yr 2 Students – Junior School Athletics Carnival
Earlier in the week, Mr Carter emailed information to Yr 2 families advising them of the Junior School Athletics Carnival which will take place on Wednesday 8 August at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre, Homebush. This is an opportunity for all Yr 2 students who turn eight in 2018 to participate. The day itself is a full athletics carnival comprising track and field events including 100m, 200m, 800m races and shot put, discus and turbo javelin as well as long and high jump. Students are able to enter as many or as few events as they choose and there is no pre-registration required. All students receive House points for participating in events and students who place in the top positions are awarded additional points, place ribbons and may be selected to represent Redlands at the HICES Athletics Carnival on 28 August. As this is a Junior School event, parents of Prep students are asked to transport their child to and from the venue and supervise them for the duration of the day. Students should be at the Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush Bay by 8.20am. If you are interested in this opportunity please email the Junior Sports Office and also inform your Yr 2 class teacher via a note in the Student Planner.
Clubs Term 3
Just a reminder that if your family schedule has changed and your child is no longer able to do Clubs in Term 3, please email Miss Oxley so she can allocate any vacant spots to those students on the waiting list. Clubs runs from 3pm to 4pm on Wednesdays and prompt pick up at 4pm from their meeting spot is appreciated.
Parking and Car Line Reminder
For families new to the School, please be aware that there is No Parking outside of the Prep or Junior School buildings between 7.30-9.00am and 2.30-4.00pm. This zone must be kept clear to allow both car lines to operate efficiently. Junior School parents have also been asked to arrive closer to their 3.20pm end of school day or slightly after. Kindergarten car line begins at 2.50pm and siblings, Yrs 1 and 2 at 3.05pm. If you arrive earlier than these times, please do not park in the car line area as this must be kept clear for cars who are coming into the underground collection zone. The orange cones are placed for safety reasons, giving cars a clear view to be able to enter and exit the car park; we would appreciate you not moving these. If you are approached by a staff member, we ask that you please adhere to requests. There will be teachers on duty from 2.45pm daily to assist with the Prep car line process and to keep all members of the community safe.
Grandparents and Special Friends Day
We are delighted to invite Special Friends and Grandparents to Redlands on Friday 17 August.
Book Week Dress-Up Day
On Thursday 23 August, the Prep School will be participating in a Dress Up Day as a culminating activity for Book Week. This year’s topic is Find Your Treasure and students are invited to dress up with a pirate theme or any other treasure idea they have in mind. A reminder that students need to be able to use the play equipment and participate in Sports lessons and therefore sandshoes and appropriate clothing is a requirement.
