From the Principal
Upon venturing up to the fourth level of the New Learning Hub on Monday morning for the start of our Year 12 trial examinations, it was wonderful to see a display of 300 inspiring messages posted on the walls. The messages were compiled from an IB Theatre Arts project by Year 12 student Aleisha Lawrence and they provided a simple but powerful reminder of the small things in life that bring joy and gratitude. I must admit to one bringing a tear to my eye, “Playing Beatles records with my Dad”, as I remembered my own 20 year old daughter, Zoe, reigniting my passion for the Beatles as she directed me to purchase a new turntable for the old amplifier and speakers.
It has certainly been a challenging year for our Year 12 students and whilst we obviously value the importance of the trial examinations, we have continued to reinforce the need to keep things in perspective and encourage all students to focus on their wellbeing. Currently for our students, it can seem hard to find the moments to look forward to, with key end-of-year events in question. I greatly appreciate the work of the entire Secondary School Leadership Team in investigating alternatives and involving the students in finding creative solutions.
I thoroughly enjoyed attending our Junior School Athletics Carnival at SOPAC on Wednesday and assisting Mr Guha in the presentation of ribbons and medallions. New Head of Junior School Sport, Mr Dunne had added some extra fun events for the students, including a four-direction tug-o-war and 50m races, along with a 400m event. It was wonderful to see the students fully engaged and enjoying the healthy House competition. Congratulations to Roseby House on winning the overall trophy and to the following students on their individual awards and records set:
