From the Principal
It was an exciting milestone in our Senior Campus redevelopment yesterday afternoon, when we held a Topping Out Ceremony for the New Learning Hub to celebrate the completion of construction of the top floor of the building. We were delighted to welcome the owner, managers and key onsite personnel from Buildcorp, representatives from our architects and project managers, Chair Glenda McLoughlin and other members of the Redlands Board, the School Executive, RPFA President Michelle Tea and other RPFA members and Redlands staff.
Our lead contractors have done a splendid job in reaching this point since commencing onsite at the beginning of this year. We have appreciated the positive and close relationship with Buildcorp that has helped us continue to run an operating school while these works have been occurring.
During a break in the rain, we took the opportunity to walk up to the top level of the building, which will provide a wonderful learning space for our students from Term 3 next year. We also inspected the work that is progressing on lower levels including the internal structural walls of the Visual Arts and Innovative Design departments on the ground floor, as the levels have continued to grow above. We are certainly looking forward to achieving occupancy of this building in the coming year as it will transform our Senior Campus and provide our students and teachers with facilities that will give tremendous support to our innovative approach to teaching and learning.
I wish to congratulate Yr 7 Engineering Club team members William Andrew, Isaac Brooks, Thomas Jackson and Conor Petersen who won the Strength Award at the Aurecon Bridge Building competition on Tuesday, competing against 55 other schools. Their 110 gram balsa wood and string bridge supported a load of 50.2kg. What a splendid achievement!
Tomorrow night we are delighted to be hosting the Grand Finals of the SDN Debating Competition and I wish all the very best to the four Redlands teams who will be competing for Finals honours – Senior, Yr 7, Primary A and Primary B teams.
