From the Principal
On Saturday night I am very much looking forward to attending our annual School Musical, which this year is Strictly Ballroom – The Musical by Baz Lurhmann.
The Musical is one of the highlights in our Performing Arts calendar and I highly recommend it to all Redlands families as a wonderful evening of entertainment. There are still some tickets available for the performances tonight and tomorrow night at The Concourse, Chatswood, which can be booked here.
Here is a preview of what our 120 Secondary School students will bring to life on stage.
Strictly Ballroom – The Musical tells the inspiring story of a championship ballroom dancer who defies all the rules to follow his heart. Students in our Performing Arts program will combine the much-loved film’s heart, comedy and drama with white-hot dance routines, eye-popping sets and costumes and classic chart hits.
This year’s production will feature 60 on-stage performers from Years 7 – 12, including 20 Year 12 students who are veterans of the Redlands Performing Arts program in their final Redlands musical. The principal roles include:
- Patrick Friedlander (2019 Arts Captain) as Scott;
- Rebecca Burchett (2019 Theatre Captain) as Fran;
- Asha Boswarva (2019 Arts Captain) as Mrs Hastings, Scott’s mother;
- Fraser Clarke (2019 Prefect) as Mr Hastings, Scott’s father; and
- Poppi Kent (2019 Drama Captain) as Liz Holt, Scott’s previous dance partner.
The action is not just on the stage. Behind the scenes, 61 talented students will also be supporting the cast, including 10 students in the orchestra pit, 35 students in hair and make-up and 16 in the production crew.
Strictly Ballroom – The Musical provides a wonderful opportunity for all students in the Redlands Performing Arts program to showcase their immense talent – both on the stage and behind the scenes.
I wish all of the students, staff and parents who are involved in putting this performance together the very best, and I encourage any who are considering going to this spectacular show to snap up those last tickets.
