From the Principal
This week we were delighted to celebrate the exceptional academic results of the Class of 2018 at our Academic Achievers Celebration Assembly with the Top 20 HSC and Top 20 IB Achievers, their parents, teachers and Years 11 and 12. It was thrilling to celebrate over 30% of the cohort attaining an ATAR of 95 or more and 56% an ATAR of 90 or more, the latter a record percentage in the past 20 years.
I note that many of the 2018 scholars were very much engaged in the broader aspects of school life, with some also achieving highly in their extracurricular areas. This extracurricular engagement was echoed by Redlanders Hugh Smylie and Katherine Stuart in the advice they gave to Years 11 and 12 during the Assembly.
It was also very pleasing to learn about the Tertiary Education Scholarships that have been awarded to some of our Top Achievers:
- Jemma Donoghue: recipient of a Scholar Chancellor’s Award from the University of Sydney
- Marvin Ma and Liam Woolsey: recipients of UNSW Coop Scholarships, which provide three internships in addition to a financial award
- Hunter Riddle: recipient of the University of Wollongong’s Global Leaders Development Program Scholarship, enabling international study in Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai as well as three paid internships
- Katherine Stuart: recipient of two scholarships from the University of Tasmania to study Marine Biology
- Leila El-Dada: recipient of an Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship from the University of Glasgow.
As the Class of 2018 moves forward to explore the world of life after school, we wish them every success and further happiness in the coming years, and look forward to hearing of their special achievements in the future.
Dr Peter Lennox
