It was wonderful to see our new Year 12 student leaders run their first Student-Led Assembly on Tuesday in the Secondary School. The focus of the assembly was on service and how our Redlands students are giving back to the community.

One way was through the Mary’s House Walk on Sunday morning, where Redlands students and other members of our community participated in this walk to raise money for Mary’s House – a local refuge providing support for women and children impacted by domestic and family violence.

At the assembly we also heard about Redlands’ support for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and our participation in the Great Book Swap this Friday. The funds raised from this event will help to ensure indigenous children in remote communities have access to quality resources, including books in First Nations languages, to help these children develop vital literacy skills.

At the assembly, the student leaders from the Class of 2025 also revealed their motto for the upcoming year: With Heart. This motto is underpinned by their desire for students to show compassion, authenticity, respect and responsibility in all that they do.

Personally, I love this motto as I regularly see our students learn with heart; lead with heart; play with heart; perform with heart; and as we heard in Tuesday’s assembly, serve with heart.

In an outside world that can sometimes appear cruel and heartless, I look forward to seeing how our Redlands students counter this narrative by being young people with heart both here at School and also in their local and global communities.
