From the Principal
Monday was a special day in the Secondary School as the second floor of the Redlands Learning Hub and then Redlands Hall were full of students, staff and parents as we hosted our International Women’s Day Breakfast, Count Her In.
This event culminated weeks of International Women’s Day activities across both campuses including:
- talks in the most recent Junior School Assembly;
- panel discussions of students and staff at Secondary School assemblies;
- participation by a small group of students in a Round Square hosted online discussion with students from around the world on the topic of inclusion for women;
- our Secondary School Wellbeing Captains, Anneka and Anderson, as well as Year 12 Year Advisor, Ms Ynson, and I having the opportunity to listen to an amazing panel of speakers at an event hosted by the Federal Member for North Sydney, Kylea Tink MP; and
- our Secondary School Service Captains, Will and Antonia, along with Year 12 students Ava and Johnny and Secondary School Dean of Students, Ms Jansons, attending Mosman Council’s International Women’s Day Breakfast.
On Monday morning, those in attendance heard inspiring stories from two leaders committed to the creation of opportunities for women: The Hon. Bronnie Taylor (Deputy Leader of the NSW Nationals Party and the Former NSW Minister for Women) and Vicki Condon AM (Founder, CEO and Executive Director of Raise Foundation).
At Redlands, our commitment to gender equity stems from our values and our mission to provide a diverse and inclusive coeducational environment. As our Service Captains Will and Antonia reflected at Monday’s Breakfast, “International Women’s Day is a time to reflect, and see where we, as a community. can improve and strive to foster greater inclusivity; the day acts as a reminder of how far we have come but also how far we have got to go. In a coeducational school, this day is especially important as it is a celebration that we get to come together each day and work with one another with equal opportunities and the ability to encourage one another to succeed.”
As a school, we are also proud to be listed in the recently released Workplace Gender Equality Agency’s (WGEA) top 20 schools nationwide with the biggest pay gap in favour of women.

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of spending some time at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, cheering on our swimmers at the ISA Swimming Championships. There were many wonderful individual results and overall our girls finished 6th in Division 1 and our boys won Division 2. The highlight of the day for me was the last race – the Senior Boys 4 x 50m freestyle relay – not because we won the event, but because the relay team consisted of three Year 12 boys who were successfully competing for the School in their final year at Redlands and could finish on a real high.
