From the Principal

Last Monday we were delighted to celebrate the 100th birthday of Mr John Roberts with a special morning tea, and a rousing “Happy Birthday” where he was serenaded by a group of Year 12 students. John was most appreciative and spoke of his involvement with the School, commencing in 1958 when the first of his three daughters enrolled at Redlands. John’s special birthday milestone was celebrated by morning tea guests including the Chair of Redlands Board, Ms Glenda McLoughlin, other Board Directors, founding trustees Mr John Lang and Mr Bruce Adams, the School Executive, Secondary and Junior School Captains and Foundation team. All those in attendance were very impressed to learn that during the time John was involved with the School, he attended 50 consecutive Speech Days. Happy Birthday John!

I wish to congratulate the four Year 12 Drama students Olivia Allen, Francesca Brown, Stella Everett and Lachlan Stewart who have been nominated for OnSTAGE, the HSC Drama Showcase, for their HSC individual performances. These nominations are a credit to the skills and hard work of the students, supported by their Drama teachers. The OnSTAGE performances will be held at the Seymour Centre from 9-15 February 2019.

There has been much success on the slopes and the athletics track over the past week. Our Snowsports team of 48 skiers and snowboarders achieved some exceptional results at the National Snowsports Interschools at the end of last week. Six Redlands students and teams were crowned National Champions, achieving 6 Gold, 2 Silver and 8 Bronze medals, along with 16 other top 10 places and our Snowsports team finished 2nd overall in the Coed Secondary category. I make special mention of the six National Champions:

Daisy Thomas (Yr 6) – Div 4 Girls Moguls
Billy Thomas (Yr 8) – Div 3 Boys Moguls
George Murphy (Yr 9) – Div 2 Boys Moguls
Div 4 Girls Moguls
Div 3 Boys Moguls
Div 1 Boys Snowboard

Congratulations to our Secondary School Athletics team on their significant success competing at the ISA Athletics Carnival on Tuesday. Our Junior, Intermediate and Senior Girls and Senior Boys finished 2nd in their respective divisions and our Girls team finished 2nd Overall in Division 1. I make special note of Year 10 athlete Alexandra York who won Gold in five events – 100m, 200m, Long Jump, Triple Jump and High Jump – breaking the ISA record in every one of these events. I also recognise Emma Mahon (Yr 9) and Olivia Vigneault (Yr 8) who each won three Gold medals in their middle distance events, Lauren Smith (Yr 8) for winning Gold in three sprint events, and Emmi McDonald (Yr 8) who won 2 Gold and 1 Silver in her track and field events. Our Relay teams also enjoyed great success with wins by our Junior Girls, Intermediate Girls and Senior Boys. Further details can be found in the Secondary School Sport section of Note Day. Our Secondary Athletics team’s achievements come hot on the heels of the Junior School’s 2nd placing in the Division 1 HICES Carnival a couple of weeks ago and today, 19 Junior School athletes are representing HICES at the CIS Carnival at Sydney Olympic Park. I look forward to reporting on their results in next week’s Note Day.

Well done to our Snowsports and Athletics teams and a sincere thank you to our Heads of Sport, Mr Tom Kindred and Mr Adrian Carter, Snowsports Administrator Mr Bruce Campbell, Athletics Coach Mr Nick Walker, Sports Administrator Mr Cameron Ellis and all the other Sports staff and coaches for their hard work and support of the teams.

I am very much looking forward to the Redlands Spring Fair this Saturday and encourage all families to attend what will undoubtedly be a wonderful day of carnival fun. In order to reduce the environmental impact of the fair, families are encouraged to bring their own coffee mugs, water bottles and tote bags. Redlands KeepCups and water bottles are on sale now at the Uniform Shop and will be available for purchase at the Redlands Café and Canteen on Saturday.

Important Student Health and Safety Notice: Spring Fair

Parents are advised that there will be First Aid provided at the Spring Fair this coming Saturday, but our First Aid provider will not have access to medication or medical equipment held by the School for student use.

Therefore, it is essential that any student who requires an Epipen or any other medication brings this with them on the day.

In addition, please leave your dogs at home as no dogs are permitted at the Spring Fair.

I look forward to seeing you at the Redlands Spring Fair on Saturday.
