A highlight of this week has been the various orientation days on Junior and Senior Campus for our 2023 students, along with the opportunity to welcome parents to the School. The energy in the room was palpable at the Yr 7 Orientation Day and I appreciated hearing the valuable advice shared by our current Yr 7 students along with our School Captains. The strong message throughout was to embrace our school motto of ‘Let Your Light Shine’ and to be confident to be yourself and to embrace all of the opportunities available to you at Redlands.

Another highlight was the K-6 Strings Concert, which enabled the students to perform in front of their parents, proudly demonstrating their musical progress throughout the year. Having all of the Yr 2 students perform together was a special moment and I am always amazed at how our Music staff manage to coordinate the students to perform together at such a young age.

This week also marked the completion of examination period for our Yr 12 2022 students, with the last IB examination being held on Wednesday. My sincere thanks to our dedicated team of Yr 12 teachers for all of their incredible support of the students, along with a special mention to our Deans of HSC and IB, Lucy Benjamin and Darren Taylor, for their constant commitment to and encouragement to each individual student. We wish the students an enjoyable period of relaxation and look forward to celebrating their achievements later in December and early in January when the HSC and IB results are respectively released.

It has been a busy period for our Yr 10 students with the Harbour Cruise on Friday evening and the Myall Lakes camp this week. We look forward to welcoming them back to campus next week and trust that they will be looking ahead to their senior years with anticipation.

Further to the nominations for HSC Showcases in Dance, Drama and Textiles and Design, I congratulate Jake McLeod on his nomination for ARTEXPRESS, the HSC Showcase for exceptional works in Visual Arts.

Redlands is hosting the ISA end of year meetings and dinner this year and as part of the experience, we have organised for the ISA Heads of Sport and Principals to be offered the opportunity to enjoy a sailing afternoon at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron. Our partnership with the RSYS in running our sailing program is of great benefit to our students and we appreciate the additional opportunities provided to our community through this strong connection.

On Saturday, we are holding the Redlands Sailing Cup at RSYS. This event will see over 80 sailors from six Sydney schools competing on the waters of Sydney Harbour. All the very best to our sailors in their first interschools event of the year.
