From The Principal

This week has seen the commencement of a number of events scheduled to celebrate the Yr 12 Class of 2022 and their significant contribution to Redlands. It has been a pleasure to attend each of the House Morning Teas, to acknowledge the leadership of our House Captains, Heads of House and Tutors and the connection developed through the years of activities. We have enjoyed welcoming back a number of Redlanders to share their perspective as recent graduates and to offer encouragement to the students. My thanks to Hunter Auld (2021), Sarah Cowper (1972), Charlie Rogers (2017), Rebecca Faurby (2019) and Jeff Brown (2016) for joining us and supporting the 2022 graduates.

It is always impressive to learn about the various pathways and opportunities that Redlanders embrace upon leaving the school gates. As an example, Charlie Rogers recently received an R&A International Scholarship from the University of St Andrews which fully funds a year of international travel. “I intend to travel through remote regions of Western Australia and Central America, giving me the opportunity to live, learn and engage with people I would never ordinarily get the chance to meet. Continuing on from my previous work on social identity and environmentalism, I will be focusing specifically on how Indigenous environmental philosophies can help us to heal and connect with country.”

Charlie’s passions for social justice and climate change led her to produce a campaign for climate action which aired on Channel 9 in the second half of 2021. After graduating from Redlands in 2017, Charlie was awarded the inaugural International Excellence Scholarship to attend the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Having recently completed her MA (Hons) International Relations and Psychology there, she was  the recipient of the Malcolm Jeeves Award for Best Student Overall in Honours Psychology. Her energy, passion and drive are inspirational and it was wonderful to connect and learn about her desire to make a positive difference in the world.

Recently the School appointed Ms Robyn Priestley as a consultant to assist with a review of our current IB programs and pathways. Robyn is a well-known educator in the IB community and will be visiting the school periodically to conduct interviews with groups of students and staff members over the next six months. The review of academic programs forms part of our Strategic Plan (2021-25) and is focussed on ensuring that each of our students achieves personal excellence with their learning at Redlands.

My sincere thanks to members of the RPFA who have given an incredible amount of time and energy into preparation for the Spring Fair. While it was disappointing that the weather thwarted our plans last Saturday, the logistical work in planning for the Fair to occur on Senior Campus will be utilised when the new date is selected.
