From the Principal
I am pleased to inform the community that we have engaged Dr Tessa Opie from ‘In Your Skin: Relationships and Sexuality Education’ to support the School in the review and delivery of our sex education programs. Dr Opie will be visiting the School in May and will be running a range of professional development sessions for staff and also presenting a workshop for parents. At this stage, parents should keep the evening of Monday 10 May free, with details to be confirmed in due course. Dr Opie will visit the School again in Term 3 to run a series of workshops for students in Years 6 through to 12. Information regarding the sessions and topics covered will be provided in advance and discussed at the parent workshop in May. Dr Opie’s engagement with the School will include a train the trainer model for our teaching staff which will ensure that expertise is embedded within the School.
Last weekend I enjoyed the opportunity to attend a range of cocurricular activities and in particular our Jazz ‘Under’ the Garden event in the Edwards Auditorium on Saturday evening. As it has been quite some time since we were able to attend live music performances, it was wonderful to have parents in attendance to enjoy the exceptional quality of the Jazz Bands and Jazz Vocal Group, as well as the inspiring recordings of original compositions by our Music students. I was so impressed by the quality of their original works and the professional level of the recordings.
On Saturday we had a large number of teams playing Finals in ISA and other competitions and secured excellent results in Basketball, Touch Football, Tennis and Rowing at the Head of the River. I encourage you to head to the Secondary School Sports page to view the list of outstanding results.
As I write this article I am looking forward to attending the Sailing End of Season Dinner at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron this evening. As we were unable to hold these events last year, I look forward to celebrating in person with students, parents and staff.
