From the Deputy Principal
We have farewelled the Class of 2018 throughout this week, commencing with the Year 12 Final Chapel Service on Monday morning and concluding with their Prize Giving and Valedictory Dinner last night. They have been exceptional leaders during the past year and have left their legacy to the School, both in their leadership of the student body and in their Legacy Gift of a sustainable garden and composting unit for the rooftop of the New Learning Hub. One of the highlights of the week was the two guards of honour on both campuses following the Year 12 Final Assembly yesterday. The air was filled with loud cheering and applause as Preparatory, Junior and Secondary School students said farewell to the Class of 2018, as you can see in the videos below. We wish the students all the very best in their final examinations and the next stage of their educational journey and we welcome them to our Redlanders Alumni community.
Congratulations to the seven students who have been nominated for HSC Showcases in Music and Dance for their Year 12 major works. Stella Everett and Charlotte Everingham have both been nominated for ENCORE, the HSC Music Showcase, and Marcella East, Stella Everett, Emma Green, Alexandra Jackson and Samantha Menzel have received a total of 13 nominations for Callback, the HSC Dance Showcase. They join the four students we acknowledged in Note Day a couple of weeks ago who received HSC Drama nominations for OnSTAGE. Congratulations to all students on this recognition of your exceptional work.
On Tuesday this week, our Preparatory School students put our school motto into practice as they used their talents and skills to make a difference in the lives of others. Make a Difference Day saw the students writing uplifting notes, drawing pictures and making paper gifts for those older people in nursing homes who rarely receive visitors or mail. Thank you to the students and to Junior Campus Chaplain Fiona McKenzie for your thoughtful consideration of others in our community.
During the holiday period we have two groups of students heading overseas for Service Learning and Language Immersion excursions. Nineteen Year 9 students are headed to Fiji, where they will stay with local families and undertake renovation projects in their village, and a group of Year 9-11 students will spend a week in New Caledonia, developing their fluency in French and learning more about French culture. We wish all students a wonderful time during their overseas adventures and look forward to hearing about their learnings when they return.
Volunteer Thank You RSVP by Monday 8 October
