Foundation
A very warm welcome to Term 2! I hope all our families had a relaxing Easter break and managed to have some downtime after a very busy term.
I enjoyed a few days away with my family and friends in Fingal Bay, Port Stephens which we like for its fabulous coastline, greenery and slow pace.
Celebrating 100 Years of Heritage
During the holidays our Property Services team and contractors continued a highly anticipated refurbishment of the top floor of the Liggins Building. This included the Common Room, which will become the new centrepiece for displaying and celebrating our School’s rich 140-year history, while continuing to be a special space in which we gather as a community for events and reunions.
A treasure trove of memories, the Liggins Building is the single surviving element of our School grounds linking 100 years of Redlanders, through many generations to our current students today. The Liggins Building, originally known as Liggins House, opened on 9 May 1923 in honour of Redlands’ co-founder Elizabeth Liggins. First a boarding house, then kitchen, art room, laboratory, and pottery workshop, during WWII, it even housed the School’s bomb shelter. It is currently home to our vibrant Languages classrooms and Staff Common Room.
A huge thank you to all families who contributed towards the Liggins Restoration Appeal supporting this important refurbishment. There is still an Opportunity for Family Plaques. Please visit HERE for further details or contact me directly.

Postcard from Abby Goodin RL 2019
Congratulations to Abby Goodin who graduated Redlands in 2019. Since then, she has commenced studies at Parsons School of Design in New York City in Strategic Design and Management (BBA), specialising in producing and directing.

We are delighted to share that her short film, Aftermath, which she executive produced, and which was written and directed by activist and best-selling author Chessy Prout was selected for the Athena Film Festival held earlier this month. The festival celebrates the growth and empowerment of women in the film industry and it was a great honour for Abby to be selected. “I would really love to share this important piece of work with the Redlands community that supported the start of my career.” Among the cocurricular activities Abby participated in during her time at Redlands were the School Musical, Jazz Vocal Ensemble, Advanced Choir, Theatresports, Gala Arts, Vocal Competition and the Drama Competition.
Synopsis: Aftermath
“Aftermath, based on the events detailed in Chessy Prout’s best-selling memoir I Have the Right to: A High School Survivor’s Story of Sexual Assault, Justice, and Hope outlines the events that took place after the sexual assault of a minor in an elite boarding school. The short film follows the victim’s family and raises awareness on how sexual assault, in our limited cultural understanding of how to discuss it and nurture healing conversations around it, impacts not just the victim but their family, their community dynamics, and ultimately society at large.”
If there are any students with interests in production, film, theatre, directing, arts administration or who have any interest in pursuing tertiary study in the USA, Abby would be happy to connect with them. Please email alumni@redlands.nsw.edu.au for more information.
