Welcome to the Drama Team 

We are thrilled to have highly experienced and industry expert Drama teachers and tutors joining our Drama team this year in Extra Subject Drama, a special welcome to Andrew Waldin and Nic English – we are very excited to have them teaching the Drama program.

Andrew Waldin is a Sydney Theatre Award nominated actor who has worked all across the entertainment industry. Having completed a Bachelor of Acting and Diploma of Musical Theatre (ACA and NIDA), Andrew has gone on to make waves after performing in a principal role in Nice Work If You Can Get It at the Hayes, one of 2022’s most talked about productions. Andrew has an immense passion for guiding the next generations of young actors and passes on his skills at various schools across Sydney. Andrew is also an ambassador and Head Presenter for the Beautiful Minds x Marnus Labuschagne project. Andrew is beyond excited to be joining the Redlands team.

Nic English is a film, television, theatre and voice actor with over 10 years of industry experience. His theatre credits include The Misanthrope, Holding The Man, The Glass Menagerie, The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare Abridged, Neighbourhood Watch and End of the Rainbow for the State Theatre Company of South Australia and Aleppo: A Portrait of Absence for Adelaide Festival. Independent theatre credits include The Italians for Belvior’s 25A, Blame Traffic for twentysevensix, as well as Boxing Day Test and The Call for Junglebean. TV credits include upcoming shows Wellmania (Netflix) and Ten Pound Poms (BBC/Stan) as well as Joe Vs Carole (Peacock), The Tailings (SBS), Rosehaven (ABC) and Reckoning (Playmaker). Nic’s film credits include Wolf Creek 2, One Eyed Girl and Crew Cut. Nic is also a prolific voiceover actor with commercial clients including the Sydney Morning Herald, Aldi, Hahn and McDonalds, additional voices for feature films Peter Rabbit 2 and Mortal Kombat, as well as audiobooks The Brink, Invisible Boys, Home and Other Hiding Places The Near Daphne Experience, The Night Whistler and The Carnival Is Over.

The Addams Family – Musical 

Rehearsals for The Addams Family are now well underway. We completed our first Act One run on Sunday and were extremely pleased with the dedication and passion the students have brought to each rehearsal. A special thank you to our Student Production Crew, Hair and Makeup Team as well our Friends of Drama who are greatly supporting the process.

Please regularly check for Musical information which is available on iLearn and Pulse.

In Week 4 students should look out for the following; Complete an allergies Google form for makeup and hair.

Rehearsal Reminders

  •     Be prompt to all rehearsals. 
  •     Bring water and food to all rehearsals.
  •     Please be aware that Redlands has a “Nut free” policy.
  •     Bring scripts, librettos & pencils to all rehearsals.
  •     Wear appropriate attire to Friday & Sunday rehearsals eg. Redlands Drama or Dance attire or sports uniform. 

ABSENCES: If you are unable to attend any rehearsal due to special circumstances you must notify drama@redlands.nsw.edu.au in advance. 

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE: Please check the weekly rehearsal schedules regularly, these are placed on the i-learn page. 

SUNDAY REHEARSALS: Please remember to bring all food and drink from home to these rehearsals. No student is permitted to go off-site to collect food. Please bring a refillable water bottle.

PRODUCTION CREW: Please ensure all Production crew check the schedule as they will be required to attend every rehearsal on Sundays in addition to their commitment to Production on Fridays. These students will be required for all sessions and performances in the theatre during the show week.

HAIR/MAKE UP CREW: Please ensure all Production crew check the schedule as they will be required to attend every rehearsal on Sundays. All students will be rostered in the theatre during the show week.

Extra Subject and Cocurricular Drama 2023

We would love to have you join Drama in 2023! There are multiple opportunities available, including our Drama and Theatre Clubs. We have many varied workshops as part of our Extra Subject Drama program, including Acting, Musical Theatre, Filmmaking and Production, as well as our Drama and Theatre Clubs. Drama and Theatre Clubs (Nil Cost)

Senior Acting: Monday Lunch Club in the Adams Centre for Years 7-12

These clubs are popular lunch options for students looking to develop their skills in Drama. In Senior Acting students develop skills in the forms self-devised performance and script work. 

Junior Theatresports: Tuesday Lunch Club. Meet at Junior School Flagpole at 1:00pm

Junior Theatresports is a club where students learn improvisational skills, the foundation of drama and playmaking. Through a variety of pre-determined games, students learn to think on their feet and collaborate in a team. 

Cocurricular Offerings (Nil Cost)

Senior Production: Friday 3:30pm – 5:00pm. Meet in the Drama Studio

Senior Production pulls back the curtain on the theatre world as students learn the art of lighting, sound and stage management. 

Senior Theatresports: Tuesday Lunchtime in the Drama Studio

Theatresports is an activity where students learn improvisational skills. Through a variety of pre-determined games, students learn to think on their feet and collaborate in a team. There is the opportunity to compete in an inter-school competition.

Private Acting

Students develop expression and meaning, as well as consolidating their acting skills in the forms of improvisation, movement, mime, storytelling, and playbuilding. The sessions work towards auditions and external Drama examinations. Contact: drama@redlands.nsw.edu.au to enrol.

Private Music Theatre

Music Theatre Students are able to explore their singing, dancing, acting skills through various class workshops and activities.
