Drama and Theatre

Drama and Theatre

Drama and Theatre is a space where students can not only collaborate with their friends in a safe and supportive environment but is also where students learn crucial life skills that are necessary for future professions and industries such as:

Confidence – Being able to perform/speak in front of an audience is an important skill for the future. Think of leaders briefing a team, pitching a business idea or running a workshop – most jobs require you to do something like this

Creative thinking – How can you approach an idea in a way that hasn’t been targeted? Creativity leads to innovation

Critical thinking and problem solving – Performing from the perspective of different characters help develop empathy. It helps to analyse and understand things from multiple angles

I have seen this run true over the last few weeks as Year 12 IB Theatre and HSC Drama students prepare for their solo performance assessment. A lot of these students have been a part of this program since their junior skill, and to see how much they have grown is a true pleasure. We wish them all the best of luck.

Gala Arts

Last Friday the Finalists for Gala Arts 2022 were announced. Congratulations to all those who are involved. Excitingly, we are now opening submissions for the Gala Arts Photography section. All the information is below and can be found on iLearn. Please email drama@redlands.nsw.edu to be added to the page for the submission.

Year 9 Performance Images

A week ago students in Year 9 took part in the Docu-drama performance evening. Below are images of the students performing. Congratulations again to all those involved.

Senior Curriculum Performance Evenings

In the upcoming weeks, we have an array of senior curriculum performance evenings, showcasing their classwork over the semester. We encourage friends and family to attend to support all students involved. Please see the information below for these evenings.

Extra-subject Drama and Theatre

Classes are going well. If you want to enrol your child please contact drama@redlands.nsw.edu.au. Some classes are at capacity and have a waitlist.

Reminder: A friendly reminder to communicate with your child about their extra-curricular classes in the morning. We have had cases where students are in the car line or their designated pick up spot and have needed to be located before class starts. Please ensure any absences are sent to drama@redlands.nsw.edu or your child’s class tutor prior to the lesson.

Highlight of the Week: Redlands House

Creative Kids Wednesday Class: Today before our activities we warmed up and awakened our bodies with some stretching exercises.

Highlight of the Week: Kindergarten, Year 1 and 2 Musical Theatre

Today we spent a large part of the lesson on ‘Heide Heide’ learning to sing two part harmony and hold a part. It was a challenge and everyone tried really hard.

Highlight of the Week: Year 5 Junior Acting

Today the students continued to work on their scenes. They have been memorising, blocking and workshopping their scenes to perform in the class later in the term.
