Community Update

New Uniform

The redevelopment of Redlands Academic Uniform commenced in 2022 with the formation of our Uniform Committee, comprising students, parents, staff, and Board representatives from across our whole School community.  This breadth of expertise and experience, along with extensive and ongoing collaboration, has helped shape a uniform that will meet the needs of future generations of Redlands students.

We are currently working through the practicalities of the transition to the new uniform, incorporating ongoing feedback. We are excited to share the new uniform design with you later this term.

This project has seen the first holistic review of our uniform in over 40 years and will culminate in a new era of school attire that is comfortable, contemporary and provides students with personal choice. Engaging a uniform designer who understood the needs of students from Redlands House through to the Secondary School, and who could realise and develop designs in a stylish, ethical, and sustainable way, was paramount. Leading Australian designer, Jonathan Ward, has led our objectives to produce a uniform that:

  • reflects the contemporary culture and essence of the School
  • positions Redlands as a modern top tier independent school
  • is worn with pride by students

The most defining aspect of the new uniform is individual student choice. There will no longer be a summer and winter uniform. The new uniform will be trans-seasonal and will be designed to be worn all-year round. It will feature a range of core items as well as an extensive range of optional garments to complement each students’ individual preferences, style, and comfort. The new uniform will incorporate gender neutral options and honour the legacy of Redlands uniforms across our rich history.

Value and cost have been a central focus of the Uniform Committee. These have been addressed through the development of a trans-seasonal uniform, the use of newly developed fabrics that are lightweight, durable, and comfortable and implementation through a long transition period. The new uniform will be transitioned into the School over two years. It begins at the start of Term 1, 2024 and concludes at the end of Term 4, 2025. In the lead-up to the full transition, students may wear either the current uniform or the new uniform. Our much loved Second Hand Uniform Sales will continue to provide our families with current uniform items as we transition to the new uniform.

The current uniform will be transitioned out by the end of Term 4, 2025. We are working with our uniform manufacturer and the School’s Sustainability Committee to provide sustainable and ethical recycling solutions for the current uniform once it ceases to be available for use at the end of 2025.

It was a pleasure to host the Prep School Parent Contact Group (PCG) Meeting in the Liggins Building on our Senior Campus this week. We are so grateful for our active and passionate PCGs who continue to explore and deliver ways to keep our community connected, included, and supported. If you are looking to connect with our community for support then please reach out to the passionate and diverse experience of our class and year group parents, the RPFA and Friends of Groups that support Redlands families.

At Redlands we aim to provide extensive opportunities to enable our community’s light to shine and to foster the light in those around us and those in need. The Redlands Parent Prayer Group will gather on Monday 21 August from 7 to 8pm in the David Armstrong Room at St Peter’s Anglican Church in Cremorne, to provide the opportunity for those interested to come together in prayer for our school community.

We look forward to welcoming our community to the much anticipated Gala Ball this Saturday evening. To read more about our Gala Ball, and the fabulous experiences, products and activities on offer please check out the Foundation section of today’s Note Day.

Thank you for your continued guidance and support and as ever, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Community Engagement team, or to me directly, should you have any feedback, suggestions or questions.
