Startup Bootcamp Speed Mentoring Session

Startup Bootcamp had the pleasure of welcoming a group of parents, supporters and critical friends to Redlands for a speed mentoring session. Our students took the opportunity to conduct interviews with a focus on testing their most critical assumptions—the beliefs on which their entire startup ideas depend. If these assumptions are incorrect, it’s vital to uncover this early in the process!

Students were encouraged to approach their ideas with flexibility and stay open to unexpected insights as they listened carefully to the needs of potential customers.

Thank you to Redlands alumni Nicky Bryson and Ryan Bogatez, who not only participated in the customer discovery session but also led a mini-panel to share their valuable experiences as founders. We are grateful to the Macquarie University Incubator and Young Wisdom Pty Ltd for their collaboration in co-designing these enriching experiences. A special thanks to Liz Green, the Redlands Innovation and Entrepreneurial Learning Strategist, for her continuous support and guidance. Finally, a big thank you to the Redlands staff, who support our students every step of the way, and to the parents—the biggest supporters of these innovative young people.

Buzzing with Creativity: Beekeeping Club’s Beeswax Candle-Making Workshop

Last Tuesday, at lunchtime, the Beekeeping Club students had the pleasure of working with Roof Top Bees on the Roof Top Garden of the Redlands Learning Hub. It was a delightful and insightful experience that left a lasting impression on all involved.

As students gathered on the Roof Top Garden, the experts from Roof Top Bees guided students through the fascinating process of making candles from natural beeswax. Students observed and participated in every step, to create their own eco-friendly candle. This hands-on workshop not only taught students valuable skills but also deepened students’ appreciation for the essential role that bees play in the environment.

Students were grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such a rewarding project and look forward to future endeavors with a renewed sense of purpose and enthusiasm. Thank you to Ms Kimberlee Chipper for organising another interesting and hands-on workshop.

Bougainvillea Talent Showcase

We are thrilled to announce the Bougainvillea Redlands Talent Showcase, a wonderful event that offers students a unique opportunity to share their talents and connect with the community! The showcase will be held at the Bougainvillea old people’s home on 19 September, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. Not only is this a chance for your child to perform and brighten the day of some truly lovely people, but it also provides a meaningful way to earn extra Service or CAS hours.

Whether your child prefers to perform solo or as part of a group, all types of acts are welcome! It’s a fantastic way for students to develop their confidence, showcase their skills and experience the joy of giving back. Plus, participating students will be able to miss half of Period 5 and Sport, making it a fun and rewarding afternoon.

Encourage your child to take part in this heart-warming event. Entry submissions are due by 16 September at 3:30 pm.

Students can sign up here.
