Exciting New Addition to Our Rooftop: Introduction of a Bee Colony
Tuesday, marked a buzzing milestone for our Beekeeping Club where the Redlands BeeKeeping Club introduced a brand-new bee colony to the rooftop apiary! This exciting event provided students with a unique opportunity to witness the fascinating process of establishing a bee colony firsthand.
During Tuesday’s event, students gathered on the rooftop to observe as the new bee colony was carefully transferred into their hive. The process began with a brief introduction to the hive structure and the essential role bees play in pollination and maintaining a healthy ecosystem.
Next, students watched as our experienced beekeepers gently placed the bee frames, filled with bees, into the hive. They explained each step of the process, from ensuring the queen bee was safely introduced to monitoring the worker bees’ behavior as they acclimated to their new home. Students were also shown how to handle bees safely and respectfully, fostering an appreciation for these vital pollinators. It was a truly hands-on experience that allowed everyone to get up close and personal with the bees while learning about the intricate workings of a bee colony.
Thank you to Sustainability Manager Kimberlee Chipper for organising this fantastic, interactive event.
The Beekeeping Club will continue to meet next Tuesday at lunchtime on the rooftop, where students will get the exciting opportunity to create Beeswax Candles. Whether your child is a seasoned beekeeper or just curious to learn more, we invite them to join the BeeKeeping Club for more bee-related activities and education.
Happy Beekeeping!

This is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their skills, whether it’s singing, dancing, playing an instrument, or any other talent they are passionate about. Your child can register for this event, by clicking on the signup link provided below. We look forward to seeing our talented young performers in action and making this a memorable experience for everyone involved
