Chaplain
Thankfulness is an important quality that the Student Representative Council (SRC) has focused on during the training for the Semester 2 SRC team. The students were asked to first identify the areas and aspects of the School for which they are thankful. The answers give a great snapshot of the view of the school from the students perspective:
- Such great teachers
- The experiences we are allowed to do
- How the School pushes me to try things I never would have done otherwise
- The teachers and the contribution they make
- The community
- The rich sporting opportunities and options available
- The Music Centre
- All the Cocurricular opportunities
- Friends
- The way it pushes me to be the best person possible
- The great classrooms which are great learning places
- The culture and atmosphere
- How the classroom is fun
- That we include everyone no matter what
The SRC is one of the ways we develop leadership in the school and, as Chaplain, I have the opportunity to invest in these students. At SRC, students discuss ways to change and improve the School so the students also need a strong sense of the strengths of our learning community.
Gratitude is an important habit to develop. The Psalms in the bible are full of songs of thanks which sustained the community in the bible through difficult and challenging times. This attitude of thanksgiving builds resilience, optimism and is a great antidote to arrogance. While Christians reflect their thanksgiving in prayer, we all can take time to be thankful for the small and large good things we enjoy. We can all thank that person who has encouraged or helped us or just done their job well. I like to make lists of all the things, actions and people for which I am thankful. Take a moment and give thanks.
