Chaplain

ANZAC Day is this weekend and the students in the Secondary School had a reflective and interesting service this week for that occasion. There were several speakers and this allowed us to explore many aspects of the remembrance, giving us a rich tapestry to which to connect.

This Sunday is a good time to reflect as a family on the security and peace we have as a result of the self-sacrificing service of the Armed Forces. Perhaps to attend a dawn service, or gather on your driveway at dawn with a candle, or have a meal together and take some time to talk about the ANZAC tradition.

I was particularly interested in the significance of the playing of Rouse (Reveille) in a memorial or funeral context. Usually used to announce the commencement of the day’s duties, playing this for the dead seems strange. It was a military testament to the hope of the resurrection of those of faith, it is a note of hope.

Hope in the context of armed conflict, death and disaster is so important. There is the hope of a new day and beginning without conflict, healing for the land, resuming normal life as the light at the end of the tunnel. The hope we have as we enjoy our beautiful country. The hope of the freedoms won for us. Hope of a better and brighter future in the place where hate and greed is gone, humanity is healed of its fatal flaws and there is no more tears, sadness or death. This is what the resurrection hope is and was secured for those who trust in Jesus on that Sunday morning two thousand years ago when Jesus rose from the dead.

Redlands Parents’ Prayer Meeting

A number of parents have wanted to participate in morning prayer meetings but have found that demands of work have made this difficult. This term instead of the meetings during the day, a group of parents have organised a meeting in Week 4 on Thursday 13 May in the evening. It is a wonderful thing to support the school community through prayer.

Thursday night 13 May
8.00-9.00pm (Week 4 of each term)
David Armstrong Room at St Peter’s Church (next to the school)
Best parking on Waters Rd

A chance to pray for the school – leadership, teachers, students and families. Open to all current parents of the school.

Please contact Sally Swan (mum of Annabelle Yr 12 and Adelaide Yr 7) on swanlsally@gmail.com for any further information.

God Bless
