Chaplain

Our Anglican tradition has extended to include some new traditions. The CRU (the Christian lunch time group) students worked with the Chaplain and Ms Shaw to produce pancakes on Tuesday 25 February. This was Shrove Tuesday, the day before Lent begins. As Lent is a time of sombre reflection on the death of Christ and a focus on repentance and fasting, Shrove Tuesday was the day that people would use up the sweet ingredients before the fast. The CRU students reminded others that the free pancakes reminded them that God’s love and forgiveness, while costly to God, was free to all who wish to accept it. This Easter it is appropriate to reflect on the salvation that God offers to all at the cost of his beloved son, Jesus Christ.

The other tradition we have begun is including musicians and singers in Chapel. Monday lunchtime sees a variety of students preparing for the Chapel. This enables students who may like to play or sing for a few weeks, but not every week, to participate. This last Monday saw our largest contingent with representatives from almost every Year Group. This enables the students to have input not only on the songs but in the arrangement as well. I am particularly looking forward to the Yr 12 Chapel this week featuring drums and saxophone. My hope is that Chapel becomes a space not only where students spend time reflecting, praying and singing but contributing to shape that time together.
