Experts in a field are always fascinating to listen to as they have so much passion, knowledge and experience seeing complexities that the person on the street may not even perceive. A group of Yrs 9, 10 and 11 students attended a Master Class on Tuesday with a History expert, Dr John Dickson, talking on the historical Jesus. He has PhD in History from Macquarie University, is an Honorary Fellow of the Department of Ancient History (Macquarie) and teaches at the University of Sydney. It was fascinating to hear him outline key research papers by secular researchers that acknowledge and embrace the New Testament as a reliable historical source with exceptional pedigree. He explained that there is not one professor of Ancient History or the Classics worldwide who doubt that Jesus existed. He also outlined key archaeological finds, especially in the last ten years, which confirm the accounts of the Gospels.

The students had an opportunity to ask questions and consider the historical Jesus and the implications this has for faith today.

All too often in popular media we hear claims and counter-claims with little erudite study to validate those claims. Yet they are repeated and loudly proclaimed so that soon they become accepted as true and yet may have not have a  basis in good research. It was a valuable opportunity to hear an expert who supported his claims with solid historical findings. 

This is what makes Christianity unique, we base our claims and faith for the future, not on myth, or conjecture but on the solid historical reality of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Students and teachers alike returned assured of this historical basis for the Christian faith and enthused to continue their own investigations into the person of Jesus.

Parents who Pray

A small but dedicated group of parents gather to pray for our school community, teachers, Executive and students. If you are interested in joining us, our next meeting is on Wednesday 14 August in B.1.1 beginning at 8.30am and finishing by 9.15am.
