Central to the bible’s message is the concept of ‘grace’. In Christian Studies, Yr 9 have been exploring this concept in the bible literature, music, film and in relationships. It is a complex theme including the idea of undeserved kindness, that is costly to the giver. Grace is more than forgiveness with additional generosity and good will. In Christian Studies we examined how the cross demonstrates grace. Further, students considered how grace can enrich relationships and community.
The Assessment Task asked the students to recast or reimagine this concept in the form of a children’s book. The students on the whole enjoyed the creativity and challenge of this task. There was fabulous scope in ideas, forms, art, text and style. Some accurately reflected the concept, others produced beautiful books even if the nuance of grace was not entirely captured.
Below is a sample of books highlighting the work of Jessica Wei, Kirill Shatilov, Eden Borrie, Max Muller, Iris Buisman, Tess Callaghan, Jack Walsh and Sophie Kennedy. There will be a display in the Roseby Library next week and we hope to share some of the books with students in the Junior School as well.
I have appreciated hearing from students their reflections on how to develop deeper relationships with good relationship skills that incorporate attitudes of grace.
