Ballet and Dance
What a fantastic start we have had to Term 2. Thank you to all our students, tutors and parents for supporting our remote learning Ballet and Dance classes and making sure Term 2 is off to a terrific start. It was just wonderful to see and talk and learn with students again. It is that terrific ability to adapt that takes us along new paths and makes these classes so very special indeed.
As we continue delivering classes online, there are some areas of responsibility that we would like to highlight to parents and students.
Supervision of Prep Students
Parents are responsible for the supervision of Prep students during online classes. It is always advised that there is a responsible adult present (in the vicinity of the computer) when a student is working online.
Suitability of Space
Please make sure that the Dance class is taking place in a suitable space. We do recommend 3m x 3m (or at least 2m x 2m) of clean floor space to allow for the students to actively take part in the class. Please also remove any items that could cause injury, including books, toys, pets etc.
Uniform
All students should wear their Dance uniform for class.
Opting out of online Ballet and Dance Classes
As advertised, our 2020 classes will all run online, via Zoom with very few exceptions, (performance groups) until further notice. Students who do not want to continue their Ballet and Dance classes online, must let the office know to allow for rebates to be put in place.
Marking the Roll
Class rolls will be marked as per normal practice. Please make all students aware. Students should join the class on time and remain in class throughout the online class.
New Faces
We welcome two new wonderful teachers on board. Ms Susie Sturgis and Ms Jennifer Psaroulis who will both be teaching/assisting Jazz going forward. We will also announce a new Senior Jazz teacher shortly.
Susannah has over 18 years of dance experience, skilled in Jazz, Tap, Contemporary and Ballet styles. Her performance credits include the Sydney Opera House, Schools Spectacular Tap Troupe, Chinese New Year Festival, Dance Of Champions (Channel 10) and Everybody Dance Now ‘The Dying Art Society’ (Channel 10). Susannah has been teaching dance for over five years and is excited to join the Redlands staff as a teacher after working as an assistant teacher at Redlands since early 2019. Susannah is currently studying a Bachelor of Primary Education specialising in Early Education at Notre Dame University.
Jennifer, a Redlander and the 2019 Dance Captain, has been performing nationally in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, and Hip-Hop since the age of six. Throughout her training, she has completed all of her RAD Ballet examinations with Distinctions, including Advanced 2. She trained at Redlands, where she had major lead roles in Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote and The Nutcracker. Jennifer has been teaching dance for the last three years, predominantly choreographing eisteddfod routines for both groups and solos. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Advanced Studies at Sydney University majoring in Theatre and Performance Studies and Psychology. Jennifer is extremely excited to be back at Redlands as part of the faculty working together with the teachers who inspired her.
