Dante at QBA and Coaching with Wim Broeckx

Dante Minassian, Year 8, has been studying with the Queensland Ballet Academy this week as a student in the Guest Academy Program. This is a wonderful opportunity for him to work with QB’s world class faculty and a chance for him to see the pre-professionals and the Company in action.

Dante is also preparing for the Australian Classical Challenge which will be taking place in Newcastle at the weekend, so Ms Revie arranged for him to be coached by Mr Wim Broeckx whilst in Brisbane.

Mr Broeckx had a long and successful career in three international companies most notably the Dutch National Ballet where he rose to Principal Dancer and later Assistant Artistic Director. Following his career dancing on the international stage, he became Director of the Dance Department of the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, Netherlands. He was also the Artistic President of the Prix de Lausanne for many years.

Lucky for Australia (and Dante) Mr Broeckx now lives in Queensland where he has worked with Queensland Ballet in several positions, such as Associate teacher and Head of the Pre-Professional Program, he also works freelance coaching talented students in preparation for exams, competitions, and auditions.

Perhaps we will see him at Redlands at some point in the future!

Pointe Assessments

There has been much excitement amongst Intermediate Foundation students this week with the arrival of Ballet Physiotherapist Nicole Baer who has been at the Academy this week for Pre-Pointe Assessments. Over the next few weeks dancers are being assessed on individual facility, strength and stability to ensure a safe transition to Pointe.

Since 2014, Nicole has worked with The Australian Ballet during their Sydney seasons as well as Bangarra Dance Company, several international touring dance companies and internationally renowned touring ballet dancers. Nicole is well known for her holistic approach and empathic treatment of each person. She takes the time to educate the dancer about the injury and management process and works closely with other health professionals to ensure that each dancer’s management plan is tailored to their needs. This method is proven to be effective in reducing the incidence of injuries.

Redlands Ballet and Dance Academy are thrilled to have a connection with Nicole and all her knowledge and experience.
