Year 12
Pastoral Care
This week in Pastoral Care, we explored the power of independence and choice. The knocking on the door of adulthood has become increasingly loud over the last few years as students become more and more determined to assert independence and take control. As the door is beginning to open, many students are finding themselves suddenly looking back and wondering if they’re actually ready to step through and leave their childhood. From the moment they choose to hit the snooze button, they begin the daily grind of making 35,000 choices per day. This is the average number of daily decisions every adult makes each day, but are our Yr 12 students ready to own them yet? It only takes one of their daily choices to take control of their direction and begin turning words into actions. Students have been encouraged to increase their awareness of their decisions and take responsibility for their outcome. If they’re unhappy with the outcome, they have the freedom to reflect and use their next 35,000 to tweak their direction. With 13 school weeks until our Valedictory Dinner, students are well and truly in the driver’s seat.
Gala Arts
Congratulations to Samantha Menzel, Michelle Li and Jeroen Speckmann for winning their respective sections of Gala Arts. The showcase item featuring over 40 Yr 12 students was the highlight of the night, particularly with so many cameo appearances from students who took a risk well outside their comfort zones.
Piano Competition
Congratulations to Michelle Li who went straight from performing experimental jazz fusion in Gala Arts to winning the Piano Competition for the third year. Michelle has embraced every performance opportunity at Redlands throughout her school career and has become an exceptional musician.
Cross Country
Congratulations to Tim Goerner, Luke Jackson, Hannah Johns, Zachary Johnson, Maximilian Keller, Leopold McAllister, Gabriel O’Sullivan and Liam Woolsey for collectively achieving the best Senior results in Redlands history. Their support of one another and passion for Cross Country has been outstanding.
