Redlands House/Transition Gold
Thank You
As we return to On-Campus Learning, we would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to our Redlands House community for all of the support, kind words, flowers and cookies we have received over the last few weeks. Our connection with families is of the utmost importance, and we are pleased to hear we’ve made a difference during this time.
At Redlands, one of our major objectives is to encourage children to be critical independent thinkers. Children are naturally curious, there is no need to teach them to think, so it is our role as educators to introduce different more effective ‘ways of thinking’ in order to expand their experiences. Our educators support the children to focus on critical thinking, and problem solving, communication, collaboration and creativity and innovation. We develop these skills by assisting the children to make connections between new ideas and their own experiences, building on their prior knowledge, identifying children’s current understandings and address any misconceptions. We engage the children in real-life problem solving, encouraging them to describe and verbalise their thoughts to co-construct meaning, challenge ideas and viewpoints. Families can assist in developing these thinking dispositions by helping children make connections between new ideas and own experiences through conversation; engaging children in solving problems and talking through the thinking process involved; ask children to describe their thinking and expose them to a variety of viewpoints.
Road Safety
With increased cars around the school at drop off and pick up, please be reminded to never choose convenience over safety. We have had a couple of near misses and in particular, please be aware that the speed limit around schools is 40km/hr. Alarmingly, a number of cars have been seen speeding up Allister St, the major road for pick ups for the Campus.
