Year 11
Leadership
It is at this time in Yr 11 when students will begin thinking about opportunities for leadership in Yr 12. Our Yr 11 Tutors will be speaking to all students and encouraging them to consider putting themselves forward for these opportunities. Yr 11 Tutor and English teacher, Ms Rachel Beggs, kindly introduced me to Cambridge Leadership for Learning Principles, which I thought I would share with you here.
The main tenet or takeaway is that leadership is more an activity than a status. “Leadership is viewed as an activity that can be exercised by anyone, regardless of status, and learning and it also applies to everyone”.
These points from the website, resonated with me in terms of our school context:
- shared leadership is symbolised in the day-to-day flow of activities of the school;
- everyone is encouraged to take the lead as appropriate to task and context;
- continuing focus on sustainability, succession and leaving a legacy;
- opportunities to exercise leadership enhance learning.
