Year 10

Industry Day

Yr 10 had an exciting and informative day last Friday as they ventured to a number of industries across Sydney. Industry Day is an opportunity that brings students to a workplace to learn more about a company and its industry, observe employees in their normal work routines, and ask questions of employees. During the tour, employees can demonstrate the equipment and technology they use on an everyday basis while highlighting the core skills and knowledge they apply in their jobs. More than a simple field trip or site visit, a workplace tour is designed and structured to meet specific learning outcomes, be educationally rich, and build awareness of the business, it’s industry sector, its role in the economy, and the career options it provides.

Paul Dillon

Paul Dillon presented an accessible and engaging information session to the Yr 10 cohort on Tuesday. Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia (DARTA) aims to provide education and training expertise as well as high quality research assistance on a wide range of alcohol and other drug issues. Additional information about the presentation or the issues discussed they can be found here.

Vaccinations

Each year NSW Health works in partnership with schools to offer the vaccines recommended by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for adolescents as part of the school vaccination program. Yr 10 Meningococcal vaccinations will take place on 19 June. To consent to the vaccination of their child, parents/guardians are advised to:

    • read all the information provided in the parent information kit
    • complete the consent form, including signing their name next to the vaccine/s they would like their child to receive
    • return the completed consent form to their child’s Tutor or Year Advisor by Monday 4 June
    • ensure that their child eats breakfast on the day of the school vaccination clinic.
Information Evening

The Yr 10 information evening was held last night. This was an informative night for both parents and students. These are important choices and we urge parents to discuss the options available to their child thoroughly with them and consider their own child’s particular strengths in determining which curriculum and which subjects they should choose.

Yr 10 Parent Teacher Night

Yr 10 Parent Teacher Night is taking place next Wednesday 6 June. If parents are unable to attend they can contact me or the classroom teacher to organise an alternative meeting time or phone conversation. Mrs Salier, our Careers Advisor, will also be available on this evening to discuss university admissions and pre-requisite subjects if needed.
