Year 8

This Week

It was wonderful to see so many parents take part in the Yr 8 Zoom parent meeting on Tuesday evening. A lot of positive and invaluable feedback has been shared for us to reflect on our program and make changes as we move forward. Thank you for all of your support from home and we have been truly impressed with the self-management of our students. We continue to look for ways for students to stay socially connected as we learn remotely and further information will come out to students through the Yr 8 Pastoral page and Tutor classes.

Also remember that the support services we have in place here at Redlands are detailed on page 12 of the Student Planner. Students can access their Tutors, Year Advisors, Dean of Students, Counsellors or Chaplain if they would like further support from school at this time. They can email the teachers directly, or wellbeing@redlands.nsw.edu.au.

Yr 8 Pastoral Program Updates

The following information was sent to students this week as a quick reminder while learning from home.

Tutor Reminders

Zoom in at 10.30am through Tutor iLearn page Monday – Thursday
Zoom in at 10.30am through the Yr 8 Pastoral Page on Fridays
Tutor will end at 10.50am each day.

Wellness Reminders

Use the ten minutes between your lessons to quickly stand up, move around, stretch, get a glass of water, run to the restroom and re-set.

Use earphones to help focus and zone out other noise. Earphones also ensure your conversation is kept within the classroom.

Ensure you do something active each day for 20-30 minutes (this week join the Redlands Sports Department for the 5km Challenge with your Strava app).

Spend as much time as possible outside of lessons away from your screens. Call your buddy and have a phone conversation or interact with your family members.

Study Reminders

Set a timer for the start of each lesson to ensure you use your break fully and login at the start of your lessons.

Set out your clothing and your books for each day’s lessons the night before. That way, you just need to grab the piles and get started in the morning.

Make a “to do” list in your Student Planner so you don’t forget to complete or submit important items/tasks assigned to you.

Special Reports from SchoolTV provides parents and caregivers with some guidelines on how best to navigate this time of transition with minimal disruption.

Online Study Skills

Please click on this link for tips from setting up your space at home for learning to templates for daily checklists and strategies for maintaining focus at home. This guide is being updated on a daily basis and is a great resource for students and parents. There is a lot of information out there about working from home, but it is often not tailored specifically to the needs of secondary students. You will also find links to lots of online learning resources as well as resources for stress management, such as this great video from Human Connections.
