Year 7

Remote Learning and Pastoral Care

As students continue to settle into remote learning, I thank you all for the support, patience and feedback (feedback@redlands.nsw.edu.au) you have provided.

On Redlands Pulse you will find an infographic providing not only some useful tips for students to assist with remote learning, but outlines the changed timetable to allow greater breaks built into the students day.

Our Yr 7 Pastoral Care program is continuing and will be an integral aspect of maintaining connections with the students. The final weeks of Term 1 will focus on:

  • Refining remote learning skills
  • Self-care when working remotely
  • Social connectedness and resilience through Tutor Group activities.

Our Pastoral sessions, have allowed students to provide a small insight into their life at home, sharing some of their favourite things. Tutor Groups have been introduced to their peers loved pets, favourite books, foods, and sporting memorabilia. We will continue in our theme of connectedness this week as students undertake a Photo Challenge whereby the focus will be things that make your life feel meaningful or full of purpose. Students will then present back to their Tutor Group what each photo represents and why is it meaningful to them.

Informal one-on-one sessions have begun whereby Year Advisors and Tutors will check in and assess the individual wellbeing of students. It is hoped that such sessions will connect students more with key adults through this period of time where uncertainty and anxiety may be evident. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Pastoral Support

Please remember that all of the usual support services are still available, although they may look a little different.  Tutors, Year Advisors, Counsellors, Dean of Students and the Chaplain are available as pastoral supports. Students can email these supports directly or through wellbeing@redlands.nsw.edu.au and staff will respond accordingly during school hours.

Our Counsellors are also currently developing a Pastoral Support iLearn page with a variety of different resources, which will be available next week. Parents are also welcome to email any of these supports if you are concerned about your son or daughter, or just need some advice abot how to support them.

Parent Zoom Meeting

We are providing this link to this week’s Yr 8 Parent Zoom Meeting due to some technical difficulties with recording the Yr 7 Meeting. The meeting content for both Year Groups is very similar. The meeting starts at timecode 06.37 and ends at timecode 35.00. The timecode can be found at the bottom left hand side of the video.

Chapel

This week was our first remote Chapel. As with other aspects of our school routine, Chapel will continue, albeit in a slightly different format. Each week our Chaplain will record a message for the students that they can access through the Chapel iLearn page. Students will be guided to this by their Tutor and are encouraged to participate in reflection activities after they have watched the video.

Virtual Cross Country

Please click here for details on an optional virtual Cross Country competition for students to compete in this week. Parents and carers are welcome to join in.

Vaccinations

Yr 7 vaccinations will be held now on 12 May if students return to school in Term 2. Parents should not take their children to a GP for these vaccinations if they intend to have them at School.
