HICES Swimming

Congratulations to all our swimmers who represented Redlands at the HICES Carnival during the week. With an early start, it was a long day for our Yr 6 students who after a day of swimming had to Canberra for their Yr 6 Camp. We had some students who broke their own PBs, for others this was their first interschool carnival. Some great swims from students with a full program: Isobel Campbell, Luca Gazzilli, Charlotte Algar, Mati Carlyon, Luka Gordon and Joshua Svensson.

Special mention to our swimmers who were rewarded for their fabulous efforts at HICES who will now go on to represent HICES at the NSWCIS Swimming Carnival later this term.

CIS AFL Trials

Unfortunately, no one made it through but they kept their chins up regardless. It was a tough day trying to showcase their talent in torrential rain! We are very proud of how they conducted themselves and all made an effort to meet and chat to players from all over NSW, some travelling for six hours just to try out! Now they’re looking forward to Regionals together with their teammates and the girls team for Paul Kelly Cup.

Cross Country

Training

We can now confirm that we are offering Cross Country training for interested students which will take place rain, hail or shine as we have a wet weather back up venue. These sessions are on each Monday morning on the oval from 7.00am for 7.15am start. They will incorporate general fitness, agility, pace work and fun fitness games.

Carnival

Our Cross Country carnival will be held on Thursday 7 May through the grounds of Cammeray Golf Club. All students in Yrs 3-6 will be involved in some capacity. There is a championship run where the top five boys and girls in each age group who place will progress through to the HICES team.

Students will be selected to run in the Championship Course based on their results they achieve in the multi-stage fitness test (commonly known as the beep test) which will be conducted in your child’s PE lessons later this term or early Term 2. It is no problem if your child qualifies from the beep test results but does not want to run in the Championship Course, they can run the fun run course.

Those students who do not meet the qualifying level will automatically be entered into the Fun Run course.

Invitation for parent helpers will go out soon.

2021 HICES and CIS Selections

At various times throughout the year, Redlands is invited to nominate Yr 5 or Yr 6 students to attend various sport trials in our pathways. This can include HICES or IPSHA (the sporting association which we belong to) and/or CIS (Combined Independent Schools) which is the next level after HICES or IPSHA. Sometimes we nominate teams (eg Netball in the coming weeks), other times we can nominate individuals. The nomination process is such that sometimes an internal trial is conducted at school for those sports that we do not offer. An example of this is Touch Football where a trial is taking place on Wednesday 18 March to see who will go through to CIS trials later this term. For those sports we do play here, but where the trials occur before the season commences (example being Football and AFL), we nominate students to attend based on the season prior. So, for the 2021 Football and AFL trials next year we will nominate students from those sports based on their attitude, ability and attendance in the upcoming 2020 season. And finally, some sports require a ‘paper trial’ such as diving, golf etc where students are invited to attend as long as they can provide the Association proof that they are competent in that sport.

Holiday Football Clinic

In exciting news our Football program will be running a school holiday clinic for interested families in the first week of the school holidays. The flyer and Google Doc link to register has been emailed to all families who had daughters play in Term 1 Football (Soccer) and those families who have nominated Football (Soccer). It is on 14, 15 and 16 April on the Junior School Oval from 9.30am-2.30pm each day. The cost of the clinic will be $240 for the three days Places are limited so please respond as soon as you receive the registration link.

Snowsports

Junior School parents and students are invited to be part of another incredible action packed Snowsports season and a special welcome to those who plan on joining our vibrant community on the slopes for the first time.

Redlands has been involved in competitive Snowsports for many years and has won numerous awards at the national level for individual events and as a school. We are committed to preparing our students to ride and ski safely and competently to enjoy this wonderful lifelong family sport.

The program commences with the start of the winter school holidays and, if your children are keen to compete, they can enter the Redlands Cup followed by the Sydney Interschools Championships. Children can compete in a wide variety of ski and snowboard events with Redlands offering specialist training (Yrs 1 to 12).

Please note race week (information on Redlands Pulse) is only for students in Yr 7 through to Yr 12. These events will take place in the week beginning 9 July. All Snowsports information can be found on Redlands Pulse.
