Peer Support

Each year around 24 Yr 11 students volunteer to support our Yr 7s as they transition to life in the Secondary School. They meet during Tutor Time in their House each fortnight during Semester 1. The Peer Support Captains, Aoibheann MacLochlainn and Stephanie Larcos, select appropriate activities from the Peer Support program and train the volunteers before the Friday sessions. The Heads of House provide the overall guidance during the program.

The Yr 7 program explores how to rethink challenges and build resilience. It looks into self-talk, having a growth mindset, success and realistic goal setting, the importance of reflection and critical thinking especially when facing setbacks. Building healthy relationships through effective communication, empathy, valuing and celebrating others are key elements throughout the fortnightly meetings. It also provides an opportunity to our Yr 7s to get to know some of our senior students in a more significant way.

The sessions are always high energy and the Yr 7s are loving the interaction, activities and games.

Congratulations

Congratulations to all Yr 7 students who auditioned for Gala Arts. This is a highly competitive process, and it is wonderful to note that students are willing to push personal boundaries, and put themselves outside of their comfort zones. We look forward to seeing how they progress through this exciting process.
