From the Principal

What a wonderful evening last Friday night was for the Twilight in the Piazza event. Whilst the rain threatened and we moved location into Dunnet Hall, it certainly didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. My wife, Lynn and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting a wide range of parents, which only further reinforced people’s passion and support for the school community. My thanks to the RPFA and our Foundation staff team for their hard work in organising this event.

Parents’ enthusiasm and engagement with the School was also on display at the Year 7 Meet and Greet evening on Monday, which provided a wonderful opportunity for parents to connect with each other and their children’s teachers. It was pleasing to note how welcome new members of our community have been made to feel.

I have thoroughly enjoyed attending a range of lessons across the School. Last Friday I attended Dr Thanos’ Year 12 HSC Ancient History class and was impressed by the engagement of the class and the level of knowledge and enthusiasm displayed by the students towards the topic of Pompei and Herculaneum. Our Author in Residence in the Junior School, Jack Heath had Ms Axam’s Year 4 class eating out of his hand as he inspired them to write with creativity, poise and flair, using the art of suspense and surprise.

At our Secondary School Assembly this week we presented our new Approaches to Learning Awards, which recognise students who have made a significant improvement in their overall Effort Tracking Score. The awards were presented for improvement shown from the end of Term 2 to end of Term 4 2019. Whilst Mr Corcoran and I spoke with conviction about the importance of effort and application in all areas of life and, in particular, academic studies, I was most impressed by the messages conveyed by our Prefect speakers Alexander Coney and Maya Auld.
