Student Planners

Some students are naturally organised; for others, organisation is a learnt skill. This year, students are expected to self-manage their Student Planners ensuring they are being used correctly as a tool to aid time management. We ask that parents also assist students in the use of this important resource by viewing their child’s Student Planner. Students should be recording 1) the date home learning is assigned; and, 2) the date home learning is due. Home learning is being assigned and if students have completed work at school, they are able to use afternoon personal study time to complete study revision notes.

Assessment Booklets

The Yr 9 Assessment Handbook is now available on Redlands Pulse and iLearn. During Pastoral Care this week, students have each completed an A3 Wall Planner which they will be bringing home to stick up on the wall in their study area.

School Photographs

Sibling photographs will be taken by Advanced Life on Wednesday 11 March in Redlands Hall from 7.15am. Any Junior School siblings are welcome to have their photo taken on 11 March if they are unable to attend the Junior Campus Sibling Photo day on 21 February. Students are required to wear blazers.

Order envelopes are available from the Secondary School Office and orders for photography packages can also be placed securely online at www.advancedlife.com.au using our School Order Code: NWL 4NR ETY. Portrait and group package orders are due by photography day. Should you have any queries concerning school photographs or online ordering, please direct them to enquiries@advancedlife.com.au.

SchoolTV: Internet Addiction

For children and teenagers, there is no doubt that the internet can be an excellent resource for information, communication and entertainment, but more and more Australian parents are concerned about excessive time online.

Today’s youth are the early settlers in a remarkable new world. Unfortunately, parents feel as though they are shut out of this world, often not knowing, nor understanding, what happens in this online environment.

It is up to parents to monitor, not just what their children do online, but also the length of time they spend online. Many of the online games children play have parental controls. However, parents do not always choose to use them. Banning is not the answer. A better strategy is to give kids access, but be informed, set some rules, monitor and supervise. To ignore this responsibility could create significant psychological and social problems for their children in years to come. Fact sheets in this School TV resource include Problematic Internet Use, Signs of Addiction and Excessive internet use.

Yr 9 Parent Events

Thank you to our Yr 9 Parent representatives, Erin, Tiff, Melinda and Suzie, for coordinating the organisation of a number of upcoming parent events for Yr 9 families. Events include coffee mornings and family picnics. Please see the email from Redlands Class of 2023 (sent Monday 10 February) for dates, locations and times.
