The end of last week saw the culmination of the Year 8 and 9 STEAM projects. Congratulations to the Year 9 top groups who presented their recommendations to Senior Management and to the Environmental Prefects on how the School could minimise its carbon footprint and reduce electricity consumption and costs. The overall winning team, representing Cowper, was comprised of Lilly Dijkstra, Jude Eden, Asher McBride, Sophie MacLachlan, Jack Walsh and Callum Wardman-Browne. On Friday Year 8 students shared their solutions on protecting the Great Barrier Reef to Year 7 students and student leaders. Well done to all students on this excellent application of their learning and thank you to all the staff who mentored and guided the students in these STEAM projects.

Today our Year 8 and Year 10 students participated in a Science Symposium where they presented their individual and team research projects, as well as enjoying a Science show presented by Dr Robert Carman from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Macquarie University. I very much enjoyed judging the Year 10 research projects and seeing the depth of thinking displayed by the finalists as they presented their research findings.

I am delighted to advise that last Friday, students and staff from right across our Preschool to Year 12 school raised $6533 for the Red Cross Bushfire Relief and Recovery Appeal with the mufti day and Senior Campus sausage sizzle. Thank you sincerely to all families who so generously contributed to help those affected by the bushfires.

I also wish to congratulate George Murphy (Year 10) who was awarded the Emerging Talented Athlete of the Year at the Ski and Snowboard Australia Community Sport Awards at a special ceremony in Canberra. Well done George.

Lastly, I sincerely thank all of the families who have supported the final stage of the New Learning Hub Appeal. Your donations for the final fit-out of this wonderful development are greatly appreciated. If you still wish to secure your Family Plaque on the Donor Recognition Wall, please visit here or learn more in the Foundation section of this week’s Note Day.
