Year 9

Social Awareness Program

Next Thursday, Yr 9 students are running a BBQ and bookstore fundraiser, with all proceeds going towards Room to Read. The bookstore will be compiled from books donated from all Year Groups in the school and these books will then be available for any student to acquire by donating a gold coin to Room to Read. It would be greatly appreciated if any books can be donated by Yr 9s and their families in the coming days.

STEAM

This week for two days, Yr 9 have been involved in STEAM activities – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics. Students have been given a project that involves auditing our electricity usage in School and looking at ways to reduce this amount both at school and at home. The aim is for each group to produce a Business Plan to be presented to senior management as to how the school can minimise its carbon footprint and reduce energy costs.

Surf Education

Students participated in the surf education program at Collaroy Beach on Monday. Unfortunately, due to the extreme heat on Tuesday, the program was condensed into one day. The students had fun in the water, learning how to surf.

Skills such as problem-solving, taking initiative and independent thinking are important for employers, and can be developed through the areas and projects involved in STEAM.
