Junior Campus

Term 4 Music Instrumental Program Concerts

Over the past few weeks, the Music Department has celebrated student performances on the Junior Campus, with children participating in the Yrs 4 and 5 MIP Concert and K-6 Strings Concert. Both concerts were remarkable showcases of musical achievement by all our students and represented the sequential learning experiences as a key component of the Preparatory School and the Junior School Music Instrumental program.

Einstein once said “Life without playing music is inconceivable to me. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music…I get most joy in life out of music.” Alongside students learning new skills on their instruments this year, the Instrumental program also focusses on assisting children to build confidence and form new relationships in team-building contexts. Studies show a direct correlation between musical training and academic success, with research proving that in learning to play an instrument, young children improve memory and abstract reasoning skills, which are essential for many other disciplines like Maths and Science.

In highlighting the musical skills that students have been developing throughout the year, it was evident in these concerts that the various groups and ensembles were well-prepared, confident and skilfully demonstrated a range of instrumental techniques in creating music.

We would like to thank all music specialists, conductors and leaders of these groups and ensembles, in delivering polished, stylistic and expressive performances. In particular, we would like to extend our thanks to MIC of Band Mrs Hilary Luck and Acting MIC Strings Mrs Mar’yana Sywak for their leadership and coordination of these programs across the school, and the superb organisational support provided by Mrs Jacqueline McGlade.

It has been wonderful to observe such great collaboration this year, as together we all build important arts education experiences for students as they explore and create music together.
