Please note that all Upcoming Events for Prep are now on their own Note Day article/page.

This Head of Preparatory School page will consist of general information from the Head of Preparatory School.

Welcome Back

I extend a very warm welcome back to Term 4 to all members of the Redlands community and I hope that you enjoyed some relaxing time with your family. Although a fast and busy term ahead, we have many exciting activities to look forward to before the very special end of year celebrations, including the K-6 Bush Dance, Prep Picnic Day and the Carols Service. A reminder that summer uniform is to be worn this term, with blazers optional and a full description of this can be found in the Student Planner. I would like to welcome the following new students and their families who are joining the Preparatory School this term.

Cora Briscoe – Kindy Red
Aven Briscoe – Two Emerald

Yr 1 Camp Out Reminder

Yr 1 Camp Out is this Friday 18 October from 3.30pm at Sydney Lakeside Holiday Park at Narrabeen. Please see Upcoming Events for more details, even if your child is not attending.

Clubs

Please note, all Wednesday Clubs will commence in Week 2 (Wednesday 23 September) and will finish in Week 7 (Wednesday 27 November). If you have questions about the Clubs program, please contact Prep Reception.

Car Line Reminders

Thank you for your continued consideration of the safety of our community when using the Prep Car Line. Please adhere to the following reminders.

  • Please refrain from lining up or parking in the driveway before the teacher on duty arrives. If there is no teacher on duty, please drive around the block until the door to the car park is open.
  • Please do not arrive before your allocated time (see below) and park adjacent to the Preschool. This must be kept clear for the car line to flow smoothly and safely next to the curb.
  • Please keep as close to the curb as possible when lining up, to ensure cars who are not in car line can safely continue their drive on Allister Street, without having to illegally cross over double lines.
  • Preparatory School children can be collected from car line at the following times:
    • Kindergarten – 2.50pm
    • Yr 1, Yr 2 and siblings – 3.00pm
  • Junior School parents begin their line up for student collection at 3.15pm, therefore we appreciate your timeliness when collecting Prep students before this time.
Forgotten Lunches

We understand from time to time lunch is left at home due to the morning rush to school. If this happens, you have two options:

  1. Bring in your child’s lunch to the Prep Reception.
  2. Call Prep Reception and the Canteen will provide a plain sandwich and a piece of fruit.

Please refrain from calling Uber Eats to deliver fast food options. Thank you for your attention to this, as we aim to promote healthy food choices whilst at school.

Revision to 2020 Term Dates

Please note there has been one revision to 2020 Term Dates.

  • Term 3 2020 will now end on Thursday 24 September (previously Friday 25 September)
  • Term 4 2020 will now commence on Monday 12 October (previously Tuesday 13 October)

The 2020 Term Dates have been updated accordingly on our website and on Redlands Pulse.

Staff News

This term we welcome back PDHPE teacher, Eliza Pierce who has had a term at the School’s High Country Campus for Winter School.

Thank You

You may have noticed the lovely new benches scattered around the Junior Campus. Thanks to the fundraising efforts and generosity of the Redlands community from the 2018 Spring Fair, we have been able to purchase several outdoor pieces of furniture, including some wooden planter boxes to complement our beautiful playground.

Bush Dance

Dust off your cowboy boots and brush up on your bush dancing skills for the upcoming K-6 Bush Dance on Saturday, 2 November. Please see flyer in Upcoming Events.

Games Day

The weather was beautiful for the annual Preparatory Games Day held on the last day of Term 3. Thank you to Faye Dongas, Jacqui Longworth and Stellina Sim for their organisation of the event, ensuring a smooth-running sports day. Thank you also to the Junior Canteen who supplied treats throughout the day and the Yr 6 students who showed exemplary leadership, assisting the Prep students during the Tabloid Games. A fun day was had by all with competitors demonstrating sportsmanship and determination as they completed their events.

Yr 2 Greek Day

Yr 2 enjoyed a wonderful morning celebrating their learning of Greek Mythology in the last week of Term 3. Students came to school dressed as a Greek God or Goddess of their choice and were excited to discuss their choice of costume. Classes participated in a rotation of activities including reading and discussing myths, as well as creating artworks based on aspects from each myth.

Melbourne Cup Luncheon

Early Birds tickets will be closing on Friday 18 October

This year the tradition continues as we host the event that stops the nation at the Sergeants Mess in Chowder Bay overlooking stunning Sydney Harbour.

This is a great opportunity to spend an afternoon with your friends, with French champagne and a cocktail on arrival, a gourmet three course luncheon, fine wines, raffles and sweeps, live band and entertainment, and fashions on the field. There is a shuttle bus service organised to bring you back to the Buena Vista Hotel (Mosman Junction). Main formalities finish straight after 3.00pm so you can leave earlier if you need to collect your children.

It is easy to book, just select your Year Group or name guests you would like to be seated with. Tables of 10 are available and one last tables of 12.
