Winter School
This week brought Spring snow, lots of skiing, and a Christmas in September celebration.
Students enjoyed their ski lessons on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. A dip in temperature on Friday evening brought a fresh layer of snow for a full weekend of skiing. “It has been especially cold in the morning.” Alex Bush.
Students also enjoyed spending some free time at the Thredbo Leisure Centre, some playing basketball and trampolining, while others had a swim in the pool.
It’s been a buzz of excitement and lots of presentations this week as language students recorded their video presentations to go back to Sydney.
On Saturday night, students competed in the Rec Room challenge. Students worked together in their Tutor Group teams to complete as many push ups, sit ups and star jumps as they could in five minute intervals. The rowing and cycling machines were whirring as students went as fast as they could and the ping pong competition got intense.
To finish the weekend, on Sunday night students and staff celebrated Christmas in September. An unusual variation on a normal July theme, but despite this, everyone got into the Christmas spirit with Santa hats, Christmas music and Christmas trivia. Did you know that between 1659 to 1681 you could be fined for celebrating Christmas?
Thank you to Tom Hartnell, Beau Davies and Helen who decorated the dining hall with tinsel and baubles and lots of Christmas lights. There was an Australiana touch with the gumtree branch serving as our Christmas tree. The amazing Christmas feast was enjoyed by all. “The food was the best so far.” Hunter Mennie.
The glazed ham was delicious! Students and staff also enjoyed unwrapping their Secret Santa gifts.
On Tuesday night everyone headed to Perisher for a night skiing adventure. We had an early dinner before enjoying the crisp cold evening to have fun on the snow. It was a new experience skiing at night and everyone enjoyed the display of fireworks to finish.
With only a few weeks to go the snow is still holding up and it’s starting to look a lot like Spring Time.
