Netball
Redlands 13 rounded out their remarkable season with a cracking win to turn the tables on their season’s nemesis Roseville, in a brilliant Grand Final outing. Really up for the big match our girls hadn’t beaten their opponents in regular season play, but jumped out to an early lead in blustery cool conditions. Roseville battled and narrowed the gap but only momentarily in the second quarter. The Redlands girls were seemingly able to lift a gear whenever challenged and by three quarter time held a commanding lead. Congratulations to the girls on a fantastic season. HICES Netball Champions and now NSNA Premiers: Clara Blackstock, Mischa Fabig, Anneke Golowenko, Jove Hazell, Charlotte Horton, Charlee Kwintner, Rugby McDonald, Saffron McVeigh, Ava Mills and Stella Simpson-Morgan were the premiership team.
Spring Challenge AFL
Despite the gale force winds, our next generation AFL boys visited Barker last week to take on Knox and Barker in the Yr 3/4 Spring Challenge and showed what a force to be reckoned with Redlands AFL will be in coming years. Taking on Barker in the first match our boys ran from the bus to their positions and proceeded to pile on the goals. Claude Gatehouse led the charge and was well supported by first time players Byron Mills and Rowan Petersen. Goals came thick and fast in the second game against Knox, with a great spread of goalkickers and a second great win, showing off some tremendous skills and teamwork. The lads travel North again this Friday for another two games in this lightning season.
Girls AFL continue to improve and display some real instincts for football. Most importantly, win lose or draw, our girls are enjoying the experience. With three teams out playing each weekend, our girls are having a blast and are really starting to understand the game and it’s intricacies.
Snowsports National Championships
Huge congratulations to our Snowsports Athletes who were in Mt Buller competing in the National Snowsports Championships. You can see from the below picture that Jules Harrington is driving through her edges and really pushing it around the turn. To ski at the National Championships is a tremendous reward for our dedicated Snowsports Athletes. The Division 4 girls finished 9th overall. Eva Fitzhenry, Jules Harrington, Saffron McVeigh and Arkie Riches made up the team. Avie Keller placed 4th in Moguls and 16th in Skier Cross in Division 5 and Aidan Schlederer placed 45th after racing in a blizzard.
