Year 11

Looking Ahead

Congratulations to all students who completed their Yr 11 HSC and IB exams at Norths. I know it was a new experience for our students and I think that they represented the School really well. We now have a few weeks to reflect on those results, collect our thoughts and start to put together a plan for their move into Yr 12 in Term 4. We are now entering the business end of schooling for these students and our expectations for late arrivals, behaviour in class, engagement in class, uniform, sport and other areas of the school will be much greater. Students need to take more control of their learning and understand that what they put in will determine what they get out of their time at Redlands. We should now see young adults taking responsibility for their actions and being able to approach Redlands staff and the wider community with respect and an attitude and outlook that is positive, proactive and pleasant.

ISA Athletics Carnival

Well done to all students who competed at the ISA Carnival on Tuesday. We have some wonderful results across the board (please check Sport section for more results). Congratulations to those girls who won the Overall Girls Shield which we haven’t held for over 20 years. Special mention to Alexandra York who recorded ISA records in the Triple Jump, Long Jump and High Jump and for winning the U16 100m and 200m. What a great effort.

Snowsports

Congratulations to all those students who competed at the National Championships last week (please check Sport section for more results). It has been a very busy few weeks for all students involved and thank you all for your effort and commitment to Snowsports.

Mock Trial Win

The Year 11 Mock Trial team had a fight on their hands this week as they were up against St Augustine’s College in the NSW Law Society Mock Trial competition, having reached the last 16 schools in NSW. The team were defending a case of causing pollution of the Parramatta River by pouring lavender paint down a drain, leading to a paint slick in the river. Leilani Heath denied she had told a painter at her house to dispose of paint illegally, while Madeleine Howard, the owner of the construction business employed by Leilani Heath, gave evidence that she had hired a useless painter who decided without any instructions from anyone, to pour the paint down a drain. Renata Ferreira and Aleisha Lawrence provided convincing legal arguments and cross examination of the prosecution’s witnesses, instructed admirably by Emily Colvin. Court Officer, Stephanie Larcos assisted the Magistrate throughout the trial. The team won and now proceed to the quarter finals, which is a fantastic result. The Magistrate commented, particularly, on the convincing nature of Leilani Heath as a witness, the excellent closing argument by Aleisha Lawrence, and the professional cross examination by Renata Ferreira, stating that she would rarely see such skills in university law students.
